I googled & found it....it was one of those cases where I've lived here all my life and genuinely had no idea where it was

Hello smiling faces! I love this page with its wonderful detail and use of colour. But also: I grew up near Hell's Gate! From age 10 to 14 I lived on the shores of Lake Rotoiti. That was our favourite geothermal area to visit. I still enjoy the ever present smell of sulphur when I return! We are taking the girls for a quick trip at the end of the year.
