Long story short : I interviewed twice for an administrative assistante position in 2 different offices of the institution I now work for. I was not selected for the position, each time ending up being second. Then, a couple of days after my last interview, someone handed their resignation with a shorter than legally required notice and the boss was freaked out by the idea that the person could plain and simple stop coming to work before the end of their notice. So he personally called me back to offer me the job ; cherry on the cake, the position was in the same office my significant other worked at the time, which meant we could carpool to work two days a week.
