Journaling reads:
Having a bit more of my own style shining through, at least for the latter part of the decade. Mom and I would shop together and buy lots of clothing for me during the sales at Crawford Department Store. I remember them from when I was little, and it was a shared event that continued all through high school.
You can see the permanent growing out of my hair. As soon as I was taller than Mom, I refused to get my hair permed. I started lightening my hair. Aunt Cathy would help me with that in the upstairs kitchen. It had a large sink that was perfect for washing out the Go Go Light.
After graduating grade school, Mom sent me to Wendy Ward’s Charm School as something to do during the summer. My posture was atrocious, my confidence was lacking. It was a great experience. And the class ended with a fashion show, see me in the upper right-hand photo, a red dress and yellow fishnet stockings. Why not?
The lower right photo shows a dress that I made. I began sewing my own clothing around 1966 and that lasted for several decades. It was a passion, almost an obsession.
In retrospect, in the 1960’s, I was a pretty conservative dresser, almost to the point of looking quite sophisticated for my age.
