Journaling reads:
Mom orchestrated my wardrobe, I had no say in the matter. Little coats to cover my frilly dresses. I was dressed well. I received hand-me-downs from Mom’s first cousin’s daughter, my second cousin. And money was not an issue for them. I recall after I outgrew the clothing, my grandmother and Mom would pack them up and ship them off to Poland for my girl cousins to wear and enjoy.
Mom had a thing for bonnets, hats and bows, the bigger the better. There were times that I looked like a “mini-me” with Mom, of course, being the leader. It was not beyond her imagination to stick a package bow on top of my head, and I have photographs to prove it. It wasn’t until I was much older that I began to understand why... Looking at the few photos of Mom as a child, Mom was outfitted with big bows and hats by her mom, my grandmother. The tradition was passed on down...
My hair was always permed. Mom had straight hair, therefore she had mine permed. It didn’t matter that I had natural wave and curl to my hair.
I got a tight perm anyway.
White anklet socks and little Mary Jane shoes completed the outfit. That was a no-brainer. I recall having black patent-leather shoes, and if I looked at the reflection in them just right, I could see my image. Pretty fancy.
Looking through my photos since I love the idea of doing decades, I have a lot of the same type of outfits! Little girls in the 50's wore dresses with coats and hats. Anklet socks and Mary Jane shoes. The only time long pants were worn was at home.
Thanks for the great idea on how to scrap this prompt!
@HavaDrPepper Glad I could help to inspire you. Mom didn't have me wear slacks at home either. The only time I remember wearing them as a little girl was under my dresses while walking to kindergarten and the temps were too cool. She didn't wear pants either until probably the 1970's or whenever it was that pantsuits became popular.
