It's not often that a book will make me think and think and think some more... but this one sure did.... I finished reading this book on 17 June 2009 and shared about it on my blog.
Escape by Carolyn Jessop is her autobiograph and describes her life as part of the Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints (FLDS)... and in a polygamist marriage.
What really made me identify with her is that she is virtually the same age as me, born on 1 Jan 1968. So each time something happened to her I would say to myself, "where was I at that age?" etc. So scary!
By the time I had done matric and started college, she was married!
By 22 she had had a few kids already, I had just finished college and started work
Her one son is the same age as Aaron.
She left the cult in 2003 and has had an uphill battle to survive since then too, single mom to 8 kids!!!
This book has really made me VERY thankful for the life I have, that I was brought up with Christian values in a Christian and loving home.
