What a day ... we decided to explore the interior of Sicily but the rental car thought differently .. '

First we visited 'CORLEONE' ... The town gained international fame as the home of the Mafia family that is central to the book and film series The Godfather.

By about eleven o'clock we left ... our destination was entered in the GPS ... the GPS sent us into a street and a street ... and oh ... suddenly we had to take a steep climb - the car was simmering and started to smoke and after 2 km was it done with driving - on a very small road in the middle of nowhere ...

What to do now - call the breakdown service - but if you do not know where you are - if the GPS does not indicate a street name ... then get out and have a look around ...

A bit further up the hill I saw a house and a few parked cars ... my husband stayed with the car and I went to look at the house ...

but I do not know I talian and they could not speak English. .... But they had internet and thanks to the translater we understood each other ...

The man was kind enough to call for us the breakdown service ... and then has to wait ... but after 15 minutes the man came back with a few other Sicilians - together they pushed the car over the hill because they did not want that we just stood there in the sun - without drinking and without food -
Around 1pm lunch was served ... pasta and steak - and cake for dessert because it was la mama her birthday - she was 76 -
After two hours of waiting, the breakdown service came - which led us to the airport to pick up another rental car ...
Would have preferred my day differently but became acquainted with a real Sicilian hospitable family ...
We are still in contact with these people and we are probably going back in June to see them again ... unforgettable ...

      What a wonderful story Marijke.. not that you had car issues but that you met and became friends with helpful people in a foreign country and you are still friends.. so neat! Beautiful!!

      @marijke hugs..I know you were in a panic... I would have been too, but I say things happen for a reason Marijke.. it was meant to happen so you could meet them :)
