Art Journaling is Haunting the Gallery at the Lily Pad

Have you seen the ghostly pages in the gallery? Halloween is a few months away, yet the art journal gallery is filled with an eerie presence!

What in the world? It is the August Art Journaling Challenge-Face It!

Crazy huh? It is more wild then I could ever imagined. Each Friday, the instructions for the month long challenge are given, first at chat, then in the forums so EVERYONE can play! I have to admit this challenge came to me in the middle of the night on an allergy medication inspired moment!

We are building a head, and I am not telling you what the parts we will do, or what the challenge to them will be, but we need to have a shape to fill, where your head will be, and each week as we add the feature, you can watch your face be created. That is where the ghostly pages have been come from. This week, we did the Shape Up- the head and the background first! Just the shape of the head! I seriously wasn’t sure how it would come out. They are all beyond fabulous, they are super spectacular!

It is NOT too late to join the merry gang of art journalers. You can see it is a challenge, but so fun! There are lots of prizeS! Yes with an S, and each week in chat we have very generous designers giving out coupons too! That is fantastic too!

I’m a creative who pulls inspiration from all corners of life—both the joyful highs and the real-life moments that punch you in the gut. Honestly, I don’t think I can pin down a single scrapbooking style for myself, so let’s just go with eclectic. My layouts really depend on my mindset. If I’m in a deep, cerebral mood, you’ll likely see something chaotic and messy. If I’m more relaxed, it tends to come out clean, simple, and structured.

My brain is usually running on several channels at once, so it’s completely normal for me to be working on a digital layout, dabbling in a hybrid project, and getting messy with art journaling or mixed media—all at the same time.

Here are a few of my go-to tools: Digital: Adobe Photoshop CC + my MacBook; Photos: Canon Rebel or iPhone; Hybrid: Cricut Joy + sewing machine; Art Journaling: watercolors, stencils, and artsticks

And when it comes to embellishments—digital or physical—I’m always reaching for messy threads, ribbons, and Polaroids. Always the Polaroids.
