Happy World Photography Day!
I think I was into photography in some way since I was a kid. I loved looking at my Mom's photo albums and started making my own scrapbooks and photo albums in elementary school. But I never thought of it as art or a hobby when I was young. I just loved recording my life and reminiscing. Then the first digiscrap forum where I hung out beginning in 2007 began offering various classes, including some on the topic of photography, and I got interested. Next, John Greengo at CreativeLIVE demystified the exposure triangle for me and I bought my first DSLR and I joined Clickinmoms and nearly dropped digital scrapbooking for a few years while I was obsessed with photography and considering going pro.
I still own my first DSLR, a Canon Rebel T1i, which I bought in 2010, and it's my good camera. The height of my time with it was around 2016 though, and for the last couple of years I've only used it maybe once a month. I still feel a bit sad about that, but whenever I think I'm going to get back into photography, it doesn't last. I think, at least partly, that was because my favorite subject to photograph are people, especially my kids when they were young, but now they don't want me photographing them every day.
I still snap photos every day using my iPhone. But they're just snapshots of the scene on my daily walk or what I made for dinner or a paper I want to file in my digital journal before throwing out. Occasionally I take stealthy snapshots of my kids while we're playing a game or hanging out chatting.
I've only chosen two phones so far ever, and no, I didn't choose because of the camera. I chose iPhone because I already had an iMac and it made sense. I replaced that iPhone 4 with the iPhone 6 in 2015 and I'm nearly ready to replace that one. So this question is so timely for me. I have been considering the possibility of switching to android. I've watched maybe a dozen comparison videos on YouTube. I'm pretty sure I'm staying with iPhone. And maybe not even the top of the line. They came out with a new SE this year, which is nearly the same as the 11, same chip, but not as many camera features. But getting a phone with the same power and longevity at a much lower price point matters more to me right now.
Hmm, maybe I should go celebrate now by picking up my poor neglected DSLR.
