Google tells me that it's World Bee Day today.

What do you think of when you see bees?
Do you have any favourite kits in the store with bees?

I am scared of Bees... more specifically the sound and them hovering near me. I was stung as a child inside my ear, so it all stems from that.

I found a big one on my purse the other day hanging out in my kitchen... I freaked a little then slowly took it outside, (imagine me holding my purse as far away from me, tiptoeing) and then threw it on the yard. lol! I gave it a few minutes... then grabbed my purse and he was just moving around in the grass.

oh bless you. That sounds so traumatic. Thank you for sharing.

I mostly love bees although we have Africanized bees here so it pays to be a little cautious. Periodically you hear about someone hospitalized or even dying because they were attacked by a swarm. But for the most part, I love the little buzzy critters. We have a pool, so I'm constantly fishing them out of there.

I think this one is adorable

When I see bees I think of what I've learned about how crucial they and other insects are in cross pollinating our crops, and about the little pollen pockets they have, and I also avoid getting too close for fear of being stung, except for those times when I've tried to capture them with my camera.

I had an unusual, interesting bee experience last month. My friend and I visited the National Arboretum. They have an exhibit with a bunch of bonsai plants (some dating back as long as I've been alive!) and outside the building are a bunch of bees buzzing around all over the place. There are signs placating visitors, promising the bees are not wanting to sting. It was a little disconcerting being amongst so many bees, but the sign seemed to be accurate. Bees did not approach me.

I'm happy they are finding pollen around to keep them (and other things) thriving, but sometimes I wish they would "take a break" when I'm trying to work outside. I have given up on trimming bushes occasionally when they seem to get too bothered by my presence. I've noticed they also will collect around the sprinkler heads after my grass waters sometimes. I've never gone after a kit specifically to showcase a bee, so no favorite - yet.

Oh wow! That must have been so scary.

When I think of bees, I think of honey. But also of bee stings. I appreciate their importance as pollinators, and I do like to see bees buzzing around my catmint in the summer. But I keep my distance, as I don't wish to be stung.

Adding the above bee-themed kits to my wish list! ....

I think of pollen and honey and stingers when I think of bees. I immediately thought of Kim Jensen’s hexagons when you mentioned scrap products for bees.

I’m happy when I see bees in the garden. Unfortunately, it’s becoming increasingly rare. So we try to attract them by buying flowers.
Because if there are no bees, there’s no (or very little) pollination and a poor harvest.
I’ve also been thinking about the Bombinate kit you mentioned @Angela Toucan

What do you think of when you see bees? First thing I think is pollination, growing flowers at home and then veg and flowers on my allotment I love when the bees visit. Without the bees / butterflies visiting the allotment plot we don't get pollination. I have set up my allotment plot this year to include a lot of flower beds to attract bees and butterflies.

Do you have any favourite kits in the store with bees? I can't say I have looked for kits with bees, but I think I will go look as they would make good kits to document my allotment journey.

I love bees. I try to keep my yard pollinator-friendly (although the HOA-hired lawn people work against my efforts and keep killing all the wildflowers I plant in the front bed). My kid is about to outgrow his "bees, trees, seas" Earth Day shirt and I'll be sad when he does. Our local U-pick farm has a little tractor ride tour that includes a shoutout to their bee boxes and how there would be no fresh produce without the pollinators.

When I was a kid, our local science museum had a really cool bee exhibit. There was a little alcove you would walk into and basically be inside the hive. The combs were built against the glass so you could watch the bees work and kids at camp would play "spot the queen" sometimes. There was a PVC pipe to the back garden and the area around it was always buzzing. My then-toddler brother loved to run through the cloud of bees and it freaked out most of the adults but he was fine.

In college, I interned at a nature center next to an elementary school. It was part of the environmental education masters program at my university. There was a MASSIVE hive they found on the property - thank goodness it was the summer! - and my boss responded by a) hiring a specialist to relocate it to the back of the nature center property and b) signing herself up for beekeeping classes. It didn't work out for me to take the class with her but she offered.

I have been stung exactly ONCE in my life. A bee thought my beautiful purple bun was a flower and got stuck. I was trying to get it unstuck. It was an accident and I felt terrible about it.

I think of flowers when I see Bees. I don't mind them as long as they leave me alone... but yellow jackets are evil. I have a NSFW nickname for those bees as I've been stung by them too many times and they HURT! We had grapes on both sides of our house growing up and would help pick the grapes for the farmers. The yellow jackets really liked the grape smells and didn't like us anywhere near them while picking. Ooooh they are evil! :giggle

When I see bees I think of them pollinating around my lavender in the backyard 20 years ago. They're so important to our ecosystems; it's sad what's happening to them in many places.

I don't mind bees, I think of pollen and that they pollinate the flowers in the backyard, but I detest wasps and hornets. In our old home I used to trim the cedar hedges a couple times a summer, and was always getting stung by wasps. We also had grapes in our backyard there and there were so many wasps around, it wasn't pleasant to be under the grape arbour.

We don't see as many bees here as we used to.
