Work commutes?

the house is gorgeous Kat~ have your dh check into a Toll pass. . . I think there's a monthly or annual fee and toll roads generally save time. We lived up north an my dh commuted 30 minutes or more every day while we were there. it wasn't bad. . .

what would be his commute from the Frisco area?

what would be his commute from the Frisco area?

We discovered yesterday what his commute COULD be to Frisco... it was 11 miles from his office to the house he saw last night (which we decided against) and it took 30 minutes. The realtor (why can't I spell that word on my first try?!)... said that the drive to McKinney would still be about 30 minutes give or take even with traffic. I am guessing because people are heading to Dallas more than they are to Plano and maybe the roads are different???

Scott is still looking for something closer, but frankly, I want to jump on this house while we can. I'd like to get down there and see our top 3 houses so far in person. Life would be so much easier just to get a place and get moved in. I still swoon over this house and nothing else (for me) has come anywhere close.

My drive without traffic is 15 minutes or so. I go to work early and leave early to avoid traffic that could add another 20 minutes or so to my commute. So maybe staggering your time could help.

It is a really nice house. Those couches already look slipcovered to me so those might be removeable for washing already.
Do you guys want a pool with the dogs? If you can do the maintenance and want one then maybe you should consider Scott's option. Texas Summers are hot!

Kim, I can't tell you how worried I am about the hot summers, that is going to be hard for me, which is why Scott's first pick is a good one. A pool would be find with the dogs although we might put a temporary fence up depending on if they try to drink out of it... I can't imagine that'd be good for them and I am certain they will drink out of the pretty blue waters.

I *think my start time will be 8 although I am hoping for 8:30 but staggering is a good option if they allow it. There are two of us in the front office (or will be). My biggest problem is not being a morning person. I get up as late as possible and shower at night to save time in the morning. My boss let me adjust my start time here to 8:30 which has made a tremendous difference (in traffic too although our traffic is nothing like North Texas)... I got here today in under 10 minutes. I love that, I am so spoiled.

I guess I could also consider that I don't expect to be at this job forever, It's not the "perfect" job but it's a lot more money and I'll like it but I want to go to school and want to get some other things together so I can work from home hopefully eventually. My ideal job right now is working at SMU which is literally down the street from Scott. We could carpool and save gas money. I just can't see turning down this medical office job though because the money is huge compared to what I get now and it gets me down there, or what if something else doesn't come up.

I think I just started rambling. Stopping now... lol...

I don't think 30 minutes is bad (but I love not doing that anymore!! 10 minutes on a snow day now)... In TX though I don't think I could live without a pool - I'd be looking again at his other option with the pool:) Just sayin'

The house is beautiful! The kitchen looks like it would be a joy to cook in. I don't think 30 minutes is too bad of a commute. My first thought was, is it in a snowy area. Being that it is in Texas I'm assuming that is not an issue. (I used to work in Syracuse,NY. The commute was hell all winter!). Also I'm assuming that you and your husband don't share a car. Sharing a car and dropping each other off at work 30 minutes away could be a lot! It looks like a great option! Good luck with choosing your new home!

Love the pool but I love the colors of the 2nd house more. Of course you can always paint and I like the covered patio on the 2nd home but then again you could always extend the roof out some. Just remember, the summers will be H.O.T. and you've got pets (don't know if they are outdoor pets or stay indoors). I would say that the heat in TX is a little warmer than up in NEARK so that is something you may want to consider.

**Good Luck on your decision**

All three great homes! I used to do a 30 minute commute, and didn't mind it - it was my quiet time, but then again I have kids and need the quiet time! :)

A few things to think of if you are thinking this will be the home you will be in for a while:

backyard fun for kids?
school area good?
kid friendly home?

I know the first one is so tempting because is it downright BEAUTIFUL, but the backyard of the one your hubby likes is very large and looks very kid-friendly. Also - if they are all in different school zones, is there one that's better than the other?! The commute is a big thing, but you'll have to factor in everything!

How exciting and good luck with your decisions!!! What a fun time in your lives!

good luck deciding :)

when i worked, i always had super long drives (an hour or more) .. i was a CPA and had to drive to clients all over town. when i lived in LA the drive could be up to 2 hours each way. soooo - i think 30 minutes is fine :) LOL!

i would LOVE a pool - especially living in TX - so i would really consider that one :) but they are all SO pretty. and holy cow - you can get a lot of house in TX for a good price - i'm looking now in a suburb of boston and the houses that are on the market as a tear-down (and they literally DO need to be torn down) are starting at around $500K. boooooo!!!

Wow - that is a hard choice - all 3 are beautiful.

When I lived in the Toronto area, dh normal commute taking the train was 45 mins to downtown. I drove partway in, and it took 10 mins if no traffic, and 30 mins if there was traffic. That was a short commute for the area.

I'm lucky, now I work from home and telecommute to the office every morning! :)

I think it's safe to say I am really stressing about it today... I found a couple more houses (one really close to where we work, but MUCH older than what we want, yet updated)... Scott goes this weekend to meet with some builders to see if building in one of the new subdivisions would be a good option. Otherwise I think I should just get down there and view our top 5 choices and let's make a choice and move on... I have literally bit off all my fingernails today! :/

Looks like all 3 are great... I agree that you need to visit to get a gut feeling. You'll tell a lot from looking at the neighborhoods and maybe seeing other clues when you visit - like maintenance issues etc. You could always build a pool down the road if you end up liking one of the non-pool houses the best:)
Best of luck
