Word of Advice: Don't move in January

yikes!!!! We moved on a JANUARY too, 13 years ago and let's just say... we SWORE never to move during winter EVER AGAIN. I fell down on our walkway while trying to keep everyone doing their job!

all the best for the move Michelle, hope there are no breaks of any kind

lol i'm sort of glad my move didn't pan out.. I'd be suffering right with you right now.

Wow Michelle, that is COLD! I hope it's not as bad as that and that your move goes well.

Being an Army brat I moved so often as a kid and have so many horrible moving stories. Which is why we still live in the first house we built and moved into right before we got married over 12 years ago. I don't think we'll ever leave it, because I hate to move that much. :)

BRRRRRRRR....we moved in the heat of August!!!

My brother and SIL came up to help us move (along with a million other people) and he sprained his ankle carrying a couch out the door....fell off the porch....he is still having problems with it and may have to have surgery!!!!

Well, I sure hope that all the major moving is done and you and your DH are flopped on a couch surrounded by boxes and are enjoying a glass of wine and some take-out! :) Maybe some hot cocoa too. :)

Oh yikes! I KNOW firsthand how cold it is! They even cancelled the buses today and I could drive them to school but I don't feel like going out in this ridiculous weather. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well despite this horrid cold. xox

We moved last January. We hired movers, so it wasn't too bad, but the problem was that the previous owners left us with a thumb full of oil in the heater, and it was Martin Luther King weekend - everything closed. The guy the previous owner had used to service the heater was a small mom & pop company - and I really wanted to use them, since I knew our house was a longstanding account, and I wanted to try to help the indpendent business guy. But the guy would just not call me back - I must have spoken to his secretary (probably his wife), at least three times the week before we moved - oh, he'll get back to you. So, we were totally stuck, and our heater was working on fumes - had to call a big local company - and they were able to fill the tank - after the heat went off for a few hours - and were able to get the heater back up and running. Of course, the other guy called me back about week later, and totally lost it on me when he found out we signed with someone else. Jerk.

I haven't moved in over 20 years and really.....I don't want to no matter what time of year. When I moved from my apartment with 2 kids in tow to DH's house, it was in the middle of an ice storm. Now that.....that......that was INSANE!!!!! We both got hit in the head with freezing rain and we both slipped while moving the furniture. Why that day?!?! Well, we didn't want me to have to pay another month of rent if I wasn't living there. Luckily, we didn't get hurt too bad. But to this day, we still laugh and go down memory lane when its cold and raining and the weatherman is calling for freezing temperatures.

Michelle that is wayy too cold! I hope everything goes as well as it possibly can with your move...these stories in the thread have surely scared me. We are moving from Alabama to Wisconsin at the end of February and I hope it will at least be 40 degrees or something by that time. Thankfully my fiance is already up there (since December) so we will have a place to go to - the actual loading and unloading of furniture & that long drive worries me.

brrrr I hope it goes smoothly for you sweetie - sending you warm vibes from Summery Down Under
