So ... I have been dreading the day I need a new laptop because I hate, hate, HATE change, and Windows 8 looks like it sucks. However, the cement mixer (aka my current laptop) has gave me another blue error screen the other day that makes me think I should probably think about replacing it sooner rather than later (I was hoping to hold off until the inevitable sales at Christmas). How much am I really going to hate Windows 8??

I've had a windows 8 laptop for a year now, and I haven't had any problems with it. The start screen is different, but just go to desktop and it look the same as 'normal' .

I hate the Internet explorer that came with it, so I switched to Chrome, but apart from that it's not too bad. It seems to be optimised for a touch screen, so that's good if you have one! I do, and I quite often switch between using the mouse and the screen.

I use my laptop for internet, a few games and scrapping (obv!) So nothing too high powered :)

I skipped Windows 7, I had XP before that :)

When do things start shipping with Windows 10?

I have 8.1 and it's all fine, not a problem adapting at all.

I have to confess that I hated Windows 8 at first too. The key is to customize it to fit your usage and computing style. Once you do that, it's totally fine. It took me about a month to realize I needed to spend time customizing and few days of tinkering around to get things the way I like them.

It looks like windows 10 will be out the end of July. Which makes me think I need to either go with Windows 8 before that, or wait until they have all the Windows 10 bugs worked out. I've never had good luck with the early OS release.

As the others said, once you go to the desktop and have things customized, it's not that different. You *can* use it really differently, like it's a huge phone/tablet, but you don't need to, and for scrapping, you almost certainly won't, since things like Photoshop don't run in the tablet-ish mode anyway.

I love Win8!!! My start screen and login screens are so pretty. :)

Mainly I love it because it's so perfectly synced to my phone. According to the thing in my taskbar my PC will update to Windows 10 on the 29th! Yay!! Free, too!

If you hate it this works perfectly (I used it for the first few months with Windows 8 because I'm a big baby)

If you have windows 7 (or if you get win 8 before July 29th ) you get a free update to win 10) I do think you have to ask for it though, but as far as I can understand it will be available free for a few months after as long as you are already a windows customer, so even if you don't want the first batch you should still be ok, and not loose out.

I say go Apple!! I hated Windows so much that I switched platforms and have never looked back one bit.

I hate it, but did realize it unzip's with out the encryption crap, as you see with some freebies. Photoshop seems to like a 7200 speed drive vs 5200 or whatever. And since it alot slower with old drive, maybe giving it all c drive, my 600 gig not running as well as ween it had the whole tb to work with

Exactly this. My Windows 7 laptop died a few months ago and thankfully my old 17" with Vista still worked. Of course CC didn't work with it but I had my PS5 disc still so just reloaded it onto that machine. I broke down and bought a new laptop last week and it has been an adjustment. I've customized a little bit but I still have more to do and am not ready to upgrade to Windows 10 yet either, received the email the other day but don't want to freak myself out as still getting used to 8.1 lol.

I watched a few Youtube videos that helped me out getting used to Windows 8. Windows 8.1 was a big improvement to the program. I will jump to 10 when I get the notification.

i've been avoiding a new computer for exactly this reason, but it looks like i will have to eventually bite the bullet...have you check out QVC today, Dell if the Value of the Day!! I'm very very tempted...

I hated, hated it at first. I also hate change but after a while you get used to it. I've had mine for like three years now.
