Yep, I'm back after a fantastic 5 days in Chicago! It was fun but I was really frustrated that the hotel we stayed at charged for Wifi! Seriously?!?!? With the price we paid for each night and every other hotel around that you'd get free wifi but not where we stayed at and I didn't want to spend the money on wifi when I could spend it on other stuff.

I don't know, I guess I just figured Wifi was free at all hotels.

yes.. ugh. we met this annoyance last year on vacation. it's a joke to charge an additional wifi fee... they're making bank on that for sure.

A lot of the bigger hotels in bigger cities do that. I think its because a lot of their clientele are business travelers, and they have to have it to conduct business while they're there, so it's a no brainer to charge for it. It does suck though!

I was shocked when we went to Disney and my brother had to pay. We didn't have anything at the time that needed wifi. ;)

Gee I thought all hotels were free too. With all the free places out there, it seems silly that they would charge.

A few weeks ago when we went to the Dominican Republic our resort charged for it too. I just didn't pay because I wanted to be unplugged for a week! And it was like $10 a day! Um, really? $70 extra for a week. Not worth it! I bet they make a killing on it though for people who can't be unplugged!

Oh yes, alot of hotels are going this route, or limiting your usage to so many minutes a day.... Limit?! What?! I can't handle limits when it comes to my web time! :hissyGggggr.....

Yes I noticed this at bigger hotels in cosmopolitan areas. Drives.me.batty. I can drive down the road and free wifi hot spots from coffee shops to gas stations to fast food restaurants show available? But free wifi in my hotel room? That will be 9.99/24 hours thanks. #nothanks

I was in San Diego a few weeks ago at an expensive hotel attending a conference. The hotel charged ADDITIONAL fees to have wifi in DIFFERENT areas of the hotel!!

I paid $12 a night for wifi in my room, but I would've had to pay another $12 a day to get wifi in the conference area of the hotel!!!!

If you join the rewards programs for a large hotel chain (like Hilton) then wifi is free to certain levels of membership. I have a HILTON amex that I've used for years. It earns me hotel points, which I now use when I visit my daughter at college. When I went for a conference that ended up being at a Hilton family hotel, my wifi was free because of it.

In my experience, the more expensive the hotel is, the less likely that they'll have free wifi. The Four Seasons, Westin, Hyatt Regency, and Hilton all charge for wifi. Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express? Wifi always free. It's almost like the big name hotels are like, "If you can afford to stay with us, you can afford to pay for WiFi."

I find it such a scam! They charge crazy rates, too. I was glad I could use my iPhone to browse and check FB while I was on vacay at Disney!

I'm used to having to pay for wifi. Last month we took a quick weekend trip and the wifi was free and we were so excited about it. LOL
