Why do you scrap?

And what do you do with the pages you make? Do you print them? Share them? Save them?

Do you set goals for yourself? Or is it more free-form-as-the-spirit-moves?

Oh and the hard one - do you buy more kits than you use? Or do you use them all?

I'll post my answers later, but I am curious what motivates you.

I scrap because I'm compelled to record my life in both words and photos. I paper scrapped before it became popular and my journals and photo albums date back to childhood. Digiscrapping was invented just as I was beginning to have children so it was perfect! Easy to stop and start and keep things from little hands. Plus it satisfies my sometimes perfectionist tendency (I love the align tool!).

I print my pages in annual albums and occasionally special albums. I also share them in galleries on my website and on my blog.

I haven't really set goals for myself. Unless you consider my decision at the beginning of 2015 to make Sundays my scrapping day. I hardly scrapped at all in 2013 and 2014, focusing instead on photography, and I was desperate to get back into it. I designated Sundays my scrapping day and made a lot of pages that way for the first half of 2015. I sort of got back into the Sunday scrapping routine last autumn, but it was MOC that really revved me up and I've been scrapping like crazy this year, and not just on Sundays. There's a goal, I guess: at some point I decided I was going to scrap all 31 pages for MOC. And I did.

I'm also grateful for forum challenges because most of my scrapping is inspired by them. I actually am an easygoing, free-form-as-the-spirit-moves sort of person in general, but I get more done when I set my mind to it, at least, though it's not quite as far as setting goals.

My financial situation is such that I'm pretty good at refraining from spending money out of necessity, so I do use most of what I buy. Sometimes that requires ignoring newsletters and posts and the store though because there are so many awesome beautiful digiscrap supplies. :love

I scrap for my grandbabies b/c a happy childhood is remembered best through photos and journaling. I scrap other things occasionally but making the yearly books for the grandbabies is my main priority. I love the creative outlet - it makes me happy and I'm accomplishing something for them. My greatgrandmother made quilts, my grandmother crocheted afghans...I'm making memory books. I also quilt and crochet but that's neither here nor there.
My only goals are to do most of the challenges here, for the coupon and for the challenge. My layouts all look the same if I don't do challenges. Sometimes they all look the same anyway...
I buy whatever "grabs" me. If I'm making a themed layout and need a specific kit I will come buy one if I can find one. If I like it I usually get it while it is on sale or later with a coupon. Truthfully, I have enough stash to digiscrap every day for the rest of my life and never use the same thing twice but that isn't fun. Purchasing new kits is part of the joy for me.

Scrapping for me is primarily about recording the memories - although sometimes I will make a page just for an artistic outlet.

I do print my pages - 8x8 at Persnickety Prints and slip them into albums.

I don't set goals - with the exception of specific themed albums such as a vacation, or something I'm putting together as a gift. But for day to day life I scrap as I feel inspired and don't worry about chronological order or getting things done on a timetable. That is one nice thing about using albums, I can always put new pages in, change the order, etc.

I am pretty good about using kits I buy. And there are plenty of kits or element packs that I use multiple times.

I started mainly to scrap albums and memories. As I gained more knowledge, it slowly also became a creative outlet with memories and moments attached to that creativeness. Now, it's a combination of pages with random memories being recorded, or pages for my yearly albums.

There is no timeline and I just make pages as I feel inspired.

I print via albums through Shutterfly as money permits. I have one album ready to go, but with money tight and the strike, that will be waiting for a bit.

I used to buy way too much when I first started. I had so many kits that I did not use. I have since stopped that and also learned how to be a little more flexible with my pages, and not so theme-y. CT work in the past and present also curtail my spending!

@BevG, what a great question!!

And what do you do with the pages you make? Do you print them? Share them? Save them?
I print them: 12x12 and put them in an album. I have several CM albums and the current year I'm working on is going in a We R Memory Keepers binder. I have a few books that I made. Those are a few vacations and books of my daughter cheerleading.

Do you set goals for yourself? Or is it more free-form-as-the-spirit-moves?
I set goals and am not always meeting them. My goal right now is to finish 2013 and I will do random layouts as I am inspired.

Oh and the hard one - do you buy more kits than you use? Or do you use them all?
I really try to. I tend to impulse buy templates more than kits.

I scrap because I enjoy it, and I love being able to look back at things I don't remember, or that still make me laugh. I love the memories, and seeing people who have moved out of my life, and the ones who've moved in.

I do print my pages. Some individually, some in photobooks.

I don't set goals for myself typically, but my son is currently asking me to put all his photos as a baby (that's not happening. There are too many!) in a book for him. So, I'm going to have to move away from my free spirit, and focus on his baby book. He has one, but it's a very condensed (as in not complete) paper version. And apparently doesn't have enough photos after he looked through Lightroom yesterday!

I use my kits. I have a few that I've bought for specific themes or pages that I haven't used, but generally, I use what I buy. And I don't feel guilty about deleting a kit that is not my style at all anymore. It's a hobby for me, and I refuse to be guilty about spending money (within reason of course).

I have a very left brain job, scrapping is a right brain creative outlet for me. I don't set goals for my scrapping, or very rarely (like get that vacation album done). I print vacation albums, some pages I really like, but the pages are really for me. I'd like to print a yearly album of my favourites, but that hasn't materialized yet.
I buy the supplies which move me. I'm trying to discipline myself to use something from everything I buy, but I'm sure I don't.

I scrap because I enjoy it. It is the only "crafty" thing that I do! (The use of a glue gun gives me the heeby jeebies.) As my kiddos have grown into adults, I've loved it when they ask for one of their albums. A few years ago, my son wrote a story about me and called me "sci-fi madre" because I "rewrote" history for him in our scrapbooks. As usual, I was a year or two behind in my yearly books and a girl broke his heart. They had dated almost 3 years. From the moment she broke his heart though, no more pics of her were put in my books. I was doing paper scrapbooking then and may or may not have shredded some of her photos! I wish her no harm in real life...and he is with an amazing woman now! Seeing how much he appreciates our family books though is priceless.

Back when my girls were babies I used only Creative Memories product and cut and pasted yearly albums. I kept up till shortly after my third was born. About nine years ago I started digital scrapbooking. Every year I make basketball team albums for all three of my daughters basketball teams. Word got out and I have also made albums for the high school boys basketball team and football team. I love it and the kids really appreciate the albums...which is fun. I have made a father/daughter album for my dad, an album for my mom's 50th birthday, albums for both grandmas, and an album for my husband's 30th birthday. I made my wedding album and a book of my life so far for my 40th birthday. I have started PL albums for the last three years and have yet to finish or print one. I have SO MANY unfinished projects!! Scrapbooking for me is just therapeutic and better time spent than just watching TV (although I love a good binge watching day!!) I have WAY more product than I'll probably ever use. Since January I am starting to collect One Little Bird collections and have ordered every new kit she has released. My girls love their basketball albums and looking through the old family albums. I really want to start getting the yearly albums done...my girls enjoy them as well. :)

I scrap first to preserve the memories with all the photos I take and second as a creative and relaxing outlet for myself. I am in a technical job so scrapping keeps me balanced. It was a way to bridge technology and crafts via a computer. I found out I'm not handy with crafts. I sew but not very well lol Also, I found myway to photography came as a result of scrapping :)

I have printed several hundred pages and did several books but the majority of them live on my hard drive. I print as I can afford it but I scrap over 300 pages a year so it'll take time. I have it all backed up though.

Most of my kits are from my CT work but I do have many kits that I've bought and have yet to use. Most of my pages are CT work which I prefer not because it's free kits but it keeps me on a deadline. I like working on a deadline (my technical side speaking here lol). But I am slowly working through my kit stash with a challenge here and there.

Why do you scrap?
I scrap because I enjoy it - it's my creative outlet! But for me it's also about getting my photos off the computer into another format that my husband and I can enjoy and that we can share with other family and friends.

And what do you do with the pages you make? Do you print them? Share them? Save them?
I print 98% of them and put them in 12x12 albums. I have printed a few photobooks too. I also keep a digital scrapbook album on my iPad. That has 100% of my layouts for the last 4 or 5 years.

Do you set goals for yourself? Or is it more free-form-as-the-spirit-moves?
I don't usually set goals. If I'm feeling creative, I scrap more. If I'm not, I scrap less or take a break from scrapping entirely. I guess it is a goal to not get too far behind, lol. And I am pushing myself to do at least a few of the lilypad challenges each month to keep myself motivated.

Oh and the hard one - do you buy more kits than you use? Or do you use them all?
I totally buy more than I use. I am a sucker for a pretty kit that I think I will use at some point in the future. I've gotten better and more selective over the years, but it still happens. I've been organizing and going through older stuff to try to use more of it but I really have so much stuff that will probably never get used.

Why do you scrap?

I love to tell my family's stories because it's awesome to go back and look through the photos and know what was happening in them. I have so many heritage photos in my family that we'll never know the true stories behind. So I am attempting to leave some sort of timeline for my children, grandchildren, etc.

And what do you do with the pages you make? Do you print them? Share them? Save them?

I'm woefully behind on printing, but slowly am trying to rectify that as our budget allows.

Do you set goals for yourself? Or is it more free-form-as-the-spirit-moves?

I try to make about a page per day as the in-my-head goal. Usually, it's somewhere between 15-30 layouts. There are months, though, when I wasn't scrapping (for a variety of reasons) and only had 5 layouts. I'm really a more free form scrapper, even with that monthly goal, because I don't scrap chronologically. I scrap photos that speak to me. Or, um, if there's a cute kit I'll think, oh, I have a photo for that! LOL

Oh and the hard one - do you buy more kits than you use? Or do you use them all?

Yes, I buy more than I use, BUT I recently went through a stash busting scrapping session in March, scrapped 72 layouts, and used so many kits from my "to scrap" folder. I was so proud. LOL Since then, I've found that it's easier for me to dip into my stash . . . but it doesn't stop me from buying.

Why do you scrap?
- It's fun to do.
- I like pictures and memories and pretty things.

And what do you do with the pages you make? Do you print them? Share them? Save them?
- Chromecast them to the TV.
- Print when I have money.

Do you set goals for yourself? Or is it more free-form-as-the-spirit-moves?
- I meet my CT goals, and otherwise just do whatever I feel like.

Oh and the hard one - do you buy more kits than you use? Or do you use them all?
- I do pretty good about using them but I do still have some from DigiFiles and similar I haven't gotten to yet because I usually use TLP stuff. I don't shop anywhere else anymore.

I have really enjoyed your answers!

I too scrap to preserve our family memories. I have always done albums since college days. I still have some where I cut out sayings and titles from newspapers and put them with the pictures - paper scrapping before it was popular! Some day I hope to move (pry) them out of the magnetic albums and move them to safer albums.

I always print my pages in photobooks. Although, I do have a collection of 12x12 pages that I display in my house. I rotate them as my mood and season changes. I have recently started creating more Art Journal type pages and haven't figured out what to do with them - i.e. print them or just keep on disk for me.

I do set goals for the big scrap days or weekends. I find it helps me get things done. Sometimes life has other plans, like this year iNSD is on Mother's Day weekend - who plans these things? Probably won't get a whole lot done that weekend.

I do tend to be more goal driven than creative, so I rarely do challenges unless they just happen to work for a page already planned. I tend to work chronologically and plan out my pages so 2 page spreads end up on facing pages. I often work on multiple albums at a time: currently family albums for 2016 and for 2012. Poor 2012 got skipped when I made the move from occasional digital to all digital. Of course, I keep taking pictures all the time too.

I do buy more than I use. However, I have gotten really picky about what I buy. I look for things on sale and I really ask myself if I will actually use it. I often shop based on color palette (I know it is easy to recolor things, but I don't). However, I want to own almost everything by my favorite designers. :heartslub

I have to admit when I started (as a paper scrapper) it was to record our family memories. When I went digital I fell in love with the whole creative outlet and find that I do it mostly for just that the Creative Outlet.

I have printed books and everyone loves to look at them, so I really should invest in getting more printed.

I'll come answer tomorrow properly... -my right arm has been really bad the past two days so typing isn't comfortable, will be better tomorrow :)
but I started because I found an online free program ...didn't even know what scrapping was....(I mean, not with the name and on digital) and got more serious when I made some pages of my daughter as a baby...started going chronologically and she saw the first year and begged me to print.... ended up making the first 7 years of er life, taking photos of the paper photos with my DSLR and printed 7 books for the 8 years....
from then on?
that is the long story, but I can tell you, right now? is my best pain relief therapy, and I do not lie or make it big when I say scrapping saved my life.... not only the actual scrapping but the community, the people I have met and that continue to help me in tomes of hardship and laugh and are happy for us in happy times ...:heartlub:heartlub:beat:heartlub:heartlub

Love your answer, @MrsPeel !!! Yes, it can be a great stress relief and an encouragement too. We all need to belong and I have found TLP community to be very good at that!!

Why do you scrap?
1. To preserve memories for my children.
2. It also serves as a creative outlet.

And what do you do with the pages you make? Do you print them? Share them? Save them?
1. Print them.
2. Share them on my blog.
3. Share them in galleries.

Do you set goals for yourself? Or is it more free-form-as-the-spirit-moves?
My #1 goal is to scrap a current weekly double spread of our daily life. I print them in a book at the end of the year. 4 years strong so far! I also have other albums I'm working on right now: house construction, 2 adoption albums and a 2017 calendar.

I'm so goal oriented that I sometimes have a hard time just scrapping a page for fun...although it really is all fun to me!

Oh and the hard one - do you buy more kits than you use? Or do you use them all?
I have quite a few that I haven't scrapped with yet! I usually have my favorites and use those over and over again.

I swore I had answered this. Hmm...

I scrap for my family, but I do find a lot of the time that it's more for me, because I'm the one that enjoys looking at them the most. The kids enjoy it for a few minutes here and there. My mom and grandma enjoy looking at the ones about the kids.

I want to eventually print all my pages, but I srap a lot, and printing is expensive. As of right now, I've printed all of my art journaling layouts in 4x4 prints, and I've printed about half of my "family" pages in 8x8 prints. I have about 150 more pages to decide if I'm going to continue printing 8x8 or switch to 4x4 or 4x6 going forward. The reality is, the people who enjoy looking at them most, are looking at the digital copies, and understand the financial limits. If I were "rich" (hahahahaha) I'd print all of them 12x12s.

Yes I set goals. I have CT requirements, which I try to use to meet my other goals. I have a page count goal by the end of the year, but it's not anything I would stake my life on or anything... just a rounded number based on how many I scrapped last year. I do also set a goal each month of completing alllllll the challenges (monthly challenges, as well as subscriber and designer challenges) but I don't always finish them all.

And yes... I buy entirely too many things I've not used. I have tried to seriously cut back this year. I have spent a lot of time organizing what I have and finding things I love from my own stash to use, but I really have little time to scrap outside my CTs lately, so I've been buying for nothing. Ha. Oh well. I love it all. All the pretty things. I'm mostly drawn in by colors, because I don't recolor either... I've never bothered trying. :/
