First- Rant alert! :blahblahblah
With hubster's new job, (which is going GREAT!) there was of course a background check, which is standard here in the U.S. We didn't think anything of it. But when he went to check his pay information at the ADP site, it is using personal information about our kids!!!:nuno GRRRRRR. THAT is NOT cool. I have long known that more information is gathered than we could ever prevent. Wish that weren't true. But this still sticks in my craw, binds up my "knickers", and plain ole flat out makes me angry.
Not liking the internet today. :badputer:gun
Anyone else??? Pheeeeew!:blush Thanks for listening.

Whaaaa?!!? What information are they using? Is it part of the Q&A process to verify the user? I've never heard of this before.

I hadn't heard of that before!

Although, I'm with you on being annoyed!
I got an email today with a tracking number. And it show that I can check on the progress with Facebook messenger!!! What?!?!? I never gave this company my Facebook info. Only my email address. Just because it's the same, does not in my opinion, give them the right to look me up on Facebook!

How they did it is another problem since supposedly the setting to find me by email or phone number is turned off.....

Have you ever done an address search on Google? I needed to find addresses for thank you cards after my father died for family members that lived out of state.

Every single one of them when it pulled up the person I googled listed additional family members that live/had lived in the home as well as previous addresses. One address was for that family in the 1980's. They had moved to their current address then which was before widespread internet use.

And, having paid the bills for a company, I saw that the HR department used various search companies when doing background checks. Those companies know how to get that info.

So the bottom line is your information is out there... whether you want it to be or not.

I had ADP at my previous job and also with my current one. I've never seen any reference to information about anyone but me. Where on the site did you see the information? I would be so hacked, too!!

@HavaDrPepper (what a cool username!) you are right. And Liz- the info was listed when he went to verify his next pay info. Had our son's full name and BD, address(es!) and model of cars we have had. Now, each of these are a matter of record- esp. vehicles. But not addresses. And even if it is on record, we didn't agree to let them use that info which is not about us. :hissy We have battled govt. for many years in the past decade and can tell you that only an act of God can stop this kinda thing. I just was really aggravated that our kids were drawn into this- it should not be permitted! Big Brother is mighty comfy here. :eyeroll:eyeroll:eyeroll Ohhh- they just read this post.:backing { Insert Serenity prayer here :angel}

@AJK addresses are also matters of record. Ever been in a phone book? Ever owned property? All easily accessible information. Some of the addresses I found during that search 2 years ago, I found on county real estate database records.

As for your kids information, that information is available on probate birth records. When it comes down to it, there is no privacy. Why do you think they say don't use your mother's maiden name as an answer to a security question... it can easily be found.

Sometimes if it is a gov't job and for security clearance they need to go several levels and that includes all family members... perhaps that is the reason? Nowadays as @HavaDrPepper Rene mentioned it is out there. I was looking up an old neighbor, knowing where they moved to and the wife although in her 90's, her SSN was out there and there were voting records too... I was able to track down where my old neighbor was as it listed her as the daughter with her married name and her address so yup, not as secure as everyone thinks. And regardless how private you think things are, they aren't. Sad for sure.

I have a couple of companies that do this for me when I order things but I had to log in at some point with my Facebook info for them to access it. I'm surprised that they're able to access your FB without you have given permission or logged in that way in the past. How annoying!

Yeah. @HavaDrPepper The fact that the info is "out there" is not the issue. That they used our kid's info without clearance IS. Hope that makes sense. If you are clearing me, or hubster, then use info about US, not the kids. As children OR adults, to me, using their info in ANY way is out of bounds. Hubster was military and does have a high security clearance because of it( not saying more.) But this job, @cfile is with a Sports retail industry so that is not why. I think the problem stems from ADP's entire system. We as a people are not given full disclosure so we are surprised when something like this goes on. Sheeple. :fruit
What's done is done, so I guess it's time to move on. We've fought enough battles to know which ones are worthy.:nod :carryon

understand completely Amanda re Military.. and I agree.. hugs.
