I'm in the early stages of building a house. It'll be a smaller house since prices here in Norway are sky high and it's basically just a house for me and kidlet, although I might actually find Mr.Right one day and add a couple more to our household.

Anyway, I have a house drawn and floorplans but are still tweaking and changing some stuff here and there, and with Heather's post I figured you ladies might have some good tips and ideas on hand. So really, what do you love the most about your home? It could be anything, from kitchen cabinets to floorplan to colors, hybrid project... really, anything! I love to sneak peak into people's homes :giggle

I don't have them, but if/when I get to buy or build, I want built in shelves in the living room.
And maybe the kids' rooms.

I've seen lots of pics on Pinterest and around the web and they are awesome. :)

How fun! My favorite thing about our house is that it has lots of big windows. Gotta have my sun! I also really really love the under cabinet lighting we put in when we did a partial remodel of our kitchen a few years ago. We also had lights installed in our secondary entry and DS's closet (the only one that didn't come with one), which made a world of difference. Basically, I'm a light freak; I want them everywhere possible. LOL The guest bedroom with its own bath away from the main activity areas of the house has also come in a lot more handy than we were ever expecting.

The main things I wish we could change about our house are that the kids mainly share a bathroom (leads to lots of fights), and I wish we had a real laundry room (the laundry is in a small utility room you pass through coming in from the garage). Also, the open design is nice, but sometimes it would be good to be able to close off parts to cut down on the noise.

My fav thing about our house is also the big windows. I also love having hardwood in the dining room - I wish it was in more rooms. I wish that I had lots of built in storage in the kids rooms and in the mudroom. I could go on and on, lol. I wish we had a back deck as well. :)

when everything is complete, it will be our main floor of the house... which we're in the process of changing from a kitchen/living room/dining room to one big great room... I really love my house, it's all a very open tri-level... and I love that we bought a fixer upper and have been working on making it our own home for the past 3 years and was able to keep it from becoming a tear down like several of the houses in our neighborhood

I have big open floor plan with columns to separate the living room, dining room, family room and kitchen. I would change the fact that the main tv is on the other side of the wall fom my bedroom. Kid video game sleepovers = loud!

Ours is an open area with LR, dining, and kitchen. Wish I could paint everything but DH doesn't want paint on the expensive paneled walls! (ah yea, that's like an oxymoron)! LOL

What I love most about where we live now is the amount of closets (we live in a 2 bedroom with a total of 7 closets).

I would love to have an open floor plan again, and it's something I certainly consider when we're looking for a new place.

We are just about to build our new house and I am lookinf forward to lots of things - mostly lots of windows and lots of cupboard space! Also somewhere to entertain friends which our current house is totally unsuitable for.

I hope you post some photos of your new house - I also love looking at other people's houses.

There's some awesome tips in here :)

My house will not be built in ages... at least that's what it feels like at this point because it's in the early stages. I have a LO created with the drawings I have that are the originals;

Yes, more closets! This is the first house I've lived in with no linen closet. Where in the heck did people put their sheets and towels that lived here before?

Hmm... what do I love most about my house? That it's paid off... hahaha... But I do love the dark maple woodwork, an actual laundry room, and pretty good size master bath and closet... We have plans now for changing out the flooring, I'm so excited for this!!

Hmmmm....being a renter and having kiddos, I know one thing I would want in a house and that would be lots of storage areas. Built in shelves, neat little hidden closets or cupboards, that sort of thing. And this is so lame and complete fantasy, but I always wanted a secret room or escape hatch that opens up behind a bookshelf lol. You know, pull a certain book and it opens? Like in the cartoons? LOL, I know I'm a weirdo!

LOL Erin, I'd totally do that too if I had the moolah and space :D

That is great Rebecca - that would be my favorite thing about mine too!!!

We are in the process of working on our blueprint as well Julia, and it is exciting!!! We hope to finalize the plan and break ground in the next month! I should take about 4-6 months for us to build. My husband is the builder, so he really pushes all the sub-contractors and keeps them moving! :) I have a list of musts in a house, and seeing that this is our 4th house we have built we have really figured out what we like and don't like! I actually don't like too big of windows (unlike what so many other women mentioned), but that is because I HATE cleaning windows, I hate paying the extra for window coverings, and the standard size windows are perfect for light for me! I must have a pantry in the kitchen - we stock up on food. I desire a good size kitchen island where I can cook and people can congregate around when we have parties. I love our entry way locker/drop-zone too - it's a must! And while I love the look of the hook open kind you see on pinterest, they aren't ideal for me, because I hate to see the clutter - I have to have doors on our "lockers". Storage storage storage too - always a must!

HAVE FUN planning and deciding!!! Can't wait to see more - I love your LO with the blueprints and house stuff!
