What camera accessory would you buy for under $50?

I just ordered this Sony NEX 7, and I'm really excited! My first "big" camera!

Adorama sent me a $50 gift certificate (I guess because I used my VISA), so I'm wondering what I should spend it on. My first thought was a Gorillapod tripod, but does anyone have any other ideas for me??

I'd put it toward a straight 50mm lens which amazing for portraits. I actually use it most of the time.

Is that one of those mirrorless cameras? cool!!!! I said tripod and/or remote control so you can be in the pics too.

This is what I would say. I just ordered those so I can do some family photos on my own.

I'd get a wireless remote. That way you can set up the camera and actually get in some shots yourself. :) It's my favourite camera inexpensive camera gadget. :)

Great ideas!! Thank you! The wireless remote sounds interesting. I also thought of an extra battery. From reviews of the camera it sounds like the battery can run down quickly.

I want to spend the gift certificate right away, but husband keeps saying I should wait until I get the camera and play with it first. If I find I can get through a whole day without need of an extra battery then a battery would be low priority ... makes sense, but I don't want to wait!!

Right now I'm leaning toward tripod or wireless remote.

I would get an extra battery first. There's nothing worse than needing to take an important picture and have your battery die and not having another one to pop in there ready to go.

Nothing yet, Dalis. I've decided that my husband is right - I'll wait to play with the camera a bit to decide if the extra batter is a high priority. I really can't afford to go over the $50 of the gift card.

I take my pictures off my memory card pretty regularly, and I've never run out of room on a card, so I'm not too worried about extra memory cards. It will probably be between little tripod, extra battery, remote control.

Has anyone ever used a polarized filter? My husband's sun glasses are polarized and he showed me once how different the sky looks through a polarized filter. Maybe I"ll consider that too.

A polarized filter is SO awesome! Especially if you take pictures by water that have lots of funny reflections... but the blue skies are super blue and the little bump in color saturation is great too. But, it does let in a little less light so you have to adjust for that.

All these suggestions are great! For me, I would get the extra battery. I have for my camera and it's sooo very handy! Congrats on the new purchase!
