Weddings on a Budget

we added some balloons and dressed up the elk's with Jimmy Buffet attire
Do you have a photo to share? This sounds so awesome!

My hubby and i were engaged for 9 months and any longer and i know I would have started spending more money on stuff that we really didn't need.
Yep. Totally! We were engaged 4 months, and that totally helped keep expenses down!

Oh gosh, I am not a big fancy wedding kind of person. I'm just too budget conscious. I really wouldn't have bothered if my mom didn't insist. Our wedding was a total of $4000 which my mom & grandpa paid for. Our wedding & reception was on a cruise around Lake Tahoe. It had a dinner and live band. My dress was $45 from the Jessica McClintock outlet. A local seamstress added beads and made me a matching shawl as her present to me. My optometrist (also a family friend) made me a veil on a tiara and a garter. My flowers were through a local florist in Tahoe, which we'd call to arrange ahead of time. I didn't have bridesmaids or groomsmen. My cousin Lara did all my primping. My uncle did the photos & everyone had a disposable camera. The boat was an old paddle boat, so a lot of people dressed old fashioned with summer hats. My aunt made pralines, which we put in satin bags in little wooden boxes that looked like steamer trunks. My mom & I had stained those boxes from Michael's. 14 years later, people still tell me how much fun they had at my wedding.
