i'm planning a trip for over april vacation. first thing i have to do is book our hotel.

have you been? where did you stay? were you able to walk to the mall or did you take the metro, bus or cab? was it nice? i don't want super expensive but i don't want to stay in a dive either!

i'm going to contact my congressman about white house tour and capitol building tour. what was the best thing you saw when you were there?

My family enjoyed the museums and the monuments the most of all. The sheer magnitude of the monuments, the Memorials and Arlington is staggering. Generated many the conversation among us all.

We've been a number of times and have stayed in a variety of hotels, and of coarse I can't remember the names now. The last time we went we stayed in an apartment rental. They all were very nice and all were close to the metro which we used to get around. We also walk around a ton especially in the mall area. I realize I am not being very helpful, lol! but I think the point is that there are many nice places to stay and it is an easy city to get around.

We toured the capital one year and it was enjoyable, but a bit long for my kids (the youngest was 3-1/2 at the time). We went to Mt. Vernon another year and everyone really enjoyed that. Touring the museums, monuments at day and night, Arlington, the nat'l zoo, and just sitting and people watching all make for a great trip. There is so much to do and see there. We went one year in April and the cherry blossoms were so pretty.

We Are Founding Farmers is one of my favorite restaurants - so good! Have a great time!

we stayed at the hilton right near the white house so we were close to that and many of the museums, etc. we had two rooms and only one was ready at 4pm. the other took 2 hours more (so about 6pm) so they comp'd us all free breakfast for our stay and let me tell you the breakfast was amazing. fresh made to order omelets, and more items (buffet style) then you could ever even try. parfaits and fruit and pastries and just everything. so good. we had so much energy after our breakfast every morning for all that walking we did every day!

the sights are spread out ... and a LOT OF WALKING is involved so we got the passes for the trolley and you can jump on/jump off all day as you wish.

we loved the monuments and museums (even though a bit crowded). we visited george town too. we took our car and went to the zoo to see the pandas one afternoon as well.

if you want to get into any of those special museums like the Spy One ... i suggest you book in advance, we didn't bc my kids didn't care one way or the other, but we tried to wait on line and it was too painful!
