It seems like a lot of things get broken at my house.... :thumbsdowns

My washing machine is almost at it's end...
So I started looking for a new one. Right now mine has 1600 spin, 6 kg capacity and some other features. Nothing really fancy, but it worked fine. Oh, and it's not a toploader.

So, now, if I choose a new one, I would like it to be a bit bigger in volume capacity, I can not wash all the eiderdown in it, cause I can't get it in.
I definitely want me the start delay button!!! And a short washing program for when I need something fast back...
I'm really satisfied with the 1600 spin but perhaps 1400 is also good enough, I don't know?

Are there features you definitely think I will need for when my boys will grow up in the future and do sports? I saw some had features like an outdoors washing program, a steam program, a selfcleaning function of the soaploader, etc...

I would also like to know your experiences with the trades, but I think they will not be the same as the ones we have here in Belgium/Europe.
F.e. we have AEG, Bosch, Electrolux, Bauknecht, etc....

Thank you girls and if you like to exchange some funny 'washing' stories, please be my guest!!!! :giggle:gigglep

None of the washing machines I've used in the States are anything like the ones here. Although I haven't lived there in years, so I dunno, maybe things have changed, but I know I never once chose how many rpms the drum would spin before I moved to Europe.

We recently got an 8kg LG. It has start delay, a quick (30 min) setting, a sports setting, etc. The motor is directly attached to the drum (no belt) which I really like. I've been very pleased with it! The one we got rid of was AEG and a never-ending headache. I hated it!!

Hihi, Lorry, so recognizable! So fun you scrapped about it! But it's kind of frustrating when things get broken and your daily routine is not what it normally is.
We went to 2 stores to check things out (after an internet study) and hubby just prepared everything here at the house and now went to the store to buy it, while I'm cleaning up the space a bit.

I can't wait!!! Finally we went for the brand Miele, which is commonly known as the best, yet also the most expensive brand. We chose a middlesectioned prized in that. Normally, this brand is known to go further than 20 years. So, I'm crossing my fingers we will not be the proverbal exception....

good luck sarah! hope you love the new machine ... the one thing my newish machine doesn't have is a short cycle ... i think the shortest cycle is 45 min. :( i miss being able to do a quick wash. but i think the trade off is that it spins so well that there is very little moisture left in the clothes. so drying time is very reduced. enjoy your new machine and getting back to normal domestic life. :thumbsups

I have a front loading Bosch and I absolutely HATE it. It was top of the line when we bought it five years ago and within a year I was wishing for my old top loader back. I've been looking for a new one too because I just can't stand it anymore. I definitely want more control over the water temperature, a soak cycle and a sanitize cycle for cleaning the machine.

Ohhh Sarah, I have a Miele vacuum. LOL They do make *really* good stuff. You'll have to let us know how you like the washing machine. I wonder if I can get that here in the US.

I stuck with a top load when I got my new one a few years ago as I had heard many people complain about their front loader. I love the stainless steel drum, how it detects the water level and spins so smooth. I also like that it has a cycle to clean/sanitize itself.

we bought our last and first front loader 3 years ago used (mistake)! My hubs had to fix it again and again. It finally shuddered (for reals) and poured its contents out in a dynamic death scene. Going to the laundrymat is not an option in our household, it is ridiculous!
We did our homework for 3 days. We read and researched washers. I also found 6 month free interest card for the purchase of washer and dryer at the cheapest place (yeah me).
We walked in knowing what we wanted. A LG washer and dryer front loaders. They had to stack because I have a large pantry but narrow! I love love love it. It has a door in the front to clean out. (imagine the surprizes my boys leave in their clothes). It sings to me when it is done, the most beautiful music. A steam cycle. The Dryer has a rack so I can dry my sweaters...they don't spin, just hot air to dry them...remarkable. If it breaks down. I hold my cell phone to the front and push a button, it makes a cycle of noises and the LG people can tell what is wrong!

Almost 25 years married and my first brand new washer and dryer set! :heartslub

Gosh, Anne, it seems you have find your dream set!! Never heard of those possibilities!

We had a real real struggle with the machine today: hubby went to the store and came back with it, because this shop was the nearest and cheapest BUT they didn't have the service to install it. BUT it weighs 100kg!!! MIELE has full inox where it is possible and some heavy elements to keep things in place.
Can you imagine: me and him taking it out the car was the first struggle. Luckily, we had a little wooden thing on wheels to place it upon, so we rolled to the front door (I thought the wheels would fall of any minut, sigh...) and then struggling to get it over the doorstep. Then, because of the package we almost did not get it through the inner door.
Finally, when we finally got to open up and see our expensive baby...
There was a huge scratch on the menupart right above!!!!:furious

Ughh, this always happens with us!!!! It was not our doing, since that part had been covered and protected with isomo...
I wouldn't have dared, but hubby called the store and after about an hour they called us back and informed us there was a new one waiting for us.
Okay, so repacking things in. But no way for us both to lift the machine up in the car!!! Our whole family is away at this moment, so we had to call one of our neighours in.
When hubby got back, we had the first experience, so things went better to unpack the machine. It was scratchfree!!!

But... there was something not working fine to hook it to the crane. Normally that goes easy, but it kept leaking...

After a visit to the christmas market, hubby went to his parent's house and looked for some working material. Now we are 22:32 and the machine is doing it's first cycle!!!!

YAY YAY YAY after a very stressful day!

I don't think I've ever seen a proper top-loader in Denmark. I've seen some that open on top, but the drum is still facing to the side. We wouldn't have space for a top-loader anyway.

It sings to me when it is done, the most beautiful music.

It seems like such a small thing, but seriously, that LG washing machine music puts a smile on my face every time. It's so happy and triumphant. "come look! I just cleeeeeaned your cloooothes!" I love it. I haven't had to use the phone diagnostics yet, but after trying to figure out what was going wrong with the AEG every other minute, I thought it was a great feature too. We don't have space for a dryer but the washer is definitely a win!

Oh my, I am so glad we had ours installed. Bringing it home ourselves when we are on the 2nd floor, no elevator? Yeah, we are willing to pay someone to do that!! Sounds like a nightmare, but I'm glad they replaced it at least!
