http://duolingo.com <-- coolest site ever. FREE. language lessons. FREE. i'm going to talk about this endlessly till everyone comes and joins me. I am pretty sure it's just spanish french german and english (from the spanish perspective).

I have this big master plan.. that i'm going to spain in 10 years (aka when kid is 18). I've decided i must start mastering spanish NOW. because.. who knows, it might take me 10 years to really do so :p I did the standard 3 years of spanish in hs.. but that is nothing. So i'm using duolingo to re-refresh my spanish.

We LOVE it. Connor does the lessons with me every day and we're having a blast. Though it makes me say silly things.. like my bear drinks beer and stuff.. but hey :p whatever. it's making sure i have the grammar down :p

You can follow your friends and stuff. So make an acct.. and follow me http://duolingo.com/#/alyla Also tell me if/when you make an acct.. because i'm not following anyone and it makes me sad :p

I'm checking in there right now!! I want to learn French!!! I think it is a beautiful language and I love the French accent!! Awesome site La, thanks for letting us know about it!

Very cool! I'm going to check it out too. I've always wanted to learn French. Took two years in high school, but as you said, that just doesn't cut it. If I sign up, I'll let you know...

La! I LOVE this! Back in 1998 when I studied in Spain, by the end of my time there I was conversationally fluent, but it's been 14 years since I've really used the language. I would LOVE to actually use Spanish in daily life, as there are a lot of native Spanish speakers in our area, but now I feel so out of practice that I'm nervous to try. This is exactly what I need! and FREE! :beat Thanks for the link!!

Sent the link to my college daughter. She lives/goes to school in South Florida and her boyfriend lives in Miami (from Cuban heritage) so his grandmother pretty much only speaks Spanish. Because SO MANY people in the Miami area speak Spanish, it is very much the norm. He has taken her to Subway, ordered first (in Spanish) and then let her deal with the clerk after that, of course speaking to her in Spanish. All of his friends speak Spanish but not really around her.

I told her she might like to learn some new skills to impress him or at least his grandma.

stacy, that would be a HUGE surprise for him and his grandmother!! i bet they would LOVE her for it!!

This is VERY cool Lauren. I would really like to keep up/improve on my German so that I don't loose it all before we go back. It seems like a really good system. It's a little annoying going trough all the basic stuff before I can get to the more advanced, but I guess that's good practice too. Thanks for sharing this Lauren!

Learning another language is on my bucket list! Specifically German and Italian. When Husband is finished with his command and staff college stuff and masters program, we're going to try to go back to Germany (or Italy), so I've got two years! Maybe I could get the boys into it too. I'd really love to send them to a German school instead of the DoD school on post! How exciting! Thanks!

if you scroll down the learning tree you'll see several locks that you can click and try to "test out" of what's above :]

I took 4 years of spanish and this already seems like it's moving pretty fast. I mean, I've known it all so far, but if I hadn't had the 4 years already...sheesh. lol

lol. i did a section last night and literally said out loud ACK STOP that was too much! hahaha it feels like they expect you to have at least a little base knowledge.

Soooo cool! I took Spanish classes this past winter and would love to keep it up! I'd also like to pick up a bit more French as well. Thanks for sharing La!!

I just signed up...not sure when I'll have time to play on it though. I put that I wanted to learn German. It's my favorite language and one I understand and that makes sense to me. I should've put spanish...even though it's a different spanish than what is spoken here in southern california....but I have to say, even having a few basic words would really help me when people come in to our store. We have only one gal now that speaks spanish, and thankfully she's fluent so she can converse with them, but she only works about 20 hours a week.

I have to check it out. My Spanish-speaking skills have gotten pretty sad!
