veggie garden

I'm not a very outdoorsy person, so I don't like gardening, but my mom loves it and will devote time to it once she's retired. I like fruit more than veggies, so if we ever do have a garden it'll be all berry patches and fruit trees!

They are not turning pink, these tomatoes have been on the plant for over a month! Do they take that long to ripe?

We have some larger tomatoes (meaning, not cherry tomatoes) that have been green for about a month now. We just pulled three off today that had finally ripened... and they were so good (we had them at dinner tonight)!

They can take a while to ripen, especially if hasn't been that warm out or if they don't get 6+ hours of full sun. My experience has been that the longer the heat spell, the faster they ripen. That said, make sure you don't have a green variety - aunt ruby & green zebras are a couple of green varieties that I have planted in the past. Google what they look like and see if they match up with your tomatoes. Good luck!

I have a love/hate relationship with my garden. It sometimes seems like a bit of a waste when I don't devote the time to weeding or using everything that we grow! But I LOVE eating fresh, right from the vine food. There is something so satisfying about knowing you grew it from start to finish. The peas - which are an overwhelming favorite - have come and gone. Most of the lettuce has gone to seed without using much of it. Green beans are producing well, but the tomatoes and jalapenos are kind of a flop. We are just barely starting to get some ripe tomatoes but our plants haven't grown much at all this year. Of course the zucchini and yellow squash are growing like crazy and I can't keep up! We also have a cucumber but haven't seen anything on it yet either. The carrots are coming along but we usually don't harvest those til September. We are also trying turnips, cabbage and beets for the first time, which was DH's idea.
