VCR | Pad Patter 8.1

We didn't have VCRs when I was growing up. But we got one when our kids were young and have been thru several over the years. We have a TON of movies on tapes. Have been trying to replace our favorites with DVDs and Blue Rays the past few years. Have family videos on VHS too. And we had the rewinders, also. They never seemed to last very long though.

I grew up with black and white tv. Color tv came out when I was about 16 years old. It was cool to get to babysit for people who owned color tvs. :) And I had a great grandma who was from Norway. I don't remember her myself, and I was very young when she died. But the story about her and watching tv has always been one of my favorites. She spoke with a Norwegian accent. The yuh sound for J's. And when she saw a tv her comment was...I just (yust) don't understand how they get so many people in that little tiny box!! I so wish I had known her!

Anyway...I'm thinking we should buy a back up VCR and keep it for later on. Just in case we still need it down the road. :)

Didn't have one while growing up, we used to rent one in such a videorenting-place.
I always asked for Xanadu with Olivia Newton-John.
My parents got tired of it, lol!
well that's because roller skates plus greek mythology was so fabulous together LOL (i preferred it to Grease personally)

Awww. How sad. I think we got a vcr when I was in high school. We used to have a place in the next block that rented them along with the tapses so I remember we rented one when Thriller came out on VHS. :)

My mom had a bunch of 8-track tapes with a car tape deck @Lindzee. I remember John Denver, the Bee Gees, Commodores, etc. :)

We still have one that works - and we even use it sometimes! DH had a small tv with a built in VCR when we met and it's till going strong. It's in our bedroom, and he uses it as his alarm clock. So every morning whatever tape is in starts playing to wake him up - usually old reruns of The Simpsons that we taped off the TV way back in college LOL. I even bought a couple Disney VHS tapes from the thrift store that the kids sometimes watch in there.

As a kid, I felt like we were the only family without a VCR - neither of my parents liked watching TV or movies much so it just wasn't a priority. Sometimes one of my older siblings would rent a VCR from the video store, along with a movie - usually The Princess Bride, we watched it over and over! We finally got one when I was in high school.

@Jan God bless your Grandma. That's really funny!

The downward spiral for VHS/VCR seems to have really been obvious when Blockbuster stores closed. That used to be a real weekend kind of place. AND getting the candy specials along with a couple of tapes.

I was born in 1970, and we had a 13 inch B&W TV until the mid 80s! My parents used to rent a videodisc machine and these huge discs when i was about 12.

I think we might have had a VCR before we went into foster care, which was around 1986. My own machine was bought for our little family in 1990. I have one now, but will be buying a new one from Wards that has a disc in it as well, so you can burn from tape to disc.

We didn't have one until about 1989, mum used to rent the machine along with the tapes from Blockbuster's. I didn't realize they were still being made!
