... from Shutterfly and discover that your cover printed off center and you messed up the week numbers on your title page.

Sigh... going to go sulk for a bit. :sulk

Oh no Tracie. I'm sorry. :therethere

Your cover printed off center - was that Shutterfly's fault? Can you call for a re-print? Then while you are contacting them, see if they will allow you to switch one of the pages - and then change it out with a correct page? They do have wonderful customer service.

I figure with their customer service, they would reprint the book because of the cover. It shows up centered in the preview. And I used the same cover (just different photos) with my book for part one and it printed just fine. If it was just that, I would call them in a heartbeat, but then there's the wrong week numbers on the title page that are 100% my fault. The thought of them reprinting with that typo on page one depressed me. I could ask, but I don't want them to think that I'm making a big deal about the cover just to fix my own mistake for free. I just feel guilty about stuff like that. But the cover is obviously off center, so it's not a stretch at all.

oh no. So sorry.

I think you should call them anyway - explain their mistake and your mistake and offer to pay a little something for fixing your own part. Vendors as big as shutterfly are usually pretty happy to keep their customers happy. Be positive and try. Then you can offer to tell everyone at the Lilypad how great they are at customer service... :thumbsups

Thanks Lindzee... I'll give them a call once I'm done sulking and can sound a little more positive :-)

My takeaway so far, is that I need to be more proactive with my cover and title page. Both were thrown together last minute, which that's where most mistakes happen. I need to think about both ahead of time. My design for my cover, although clean and simple, needed to be completely centered or it didn't look right. I lucked out with the first book, not so much with this one. I'm going super simple next time, something more forgiving. As for the title page, after the help I got here, I'm going to keep using the same title page in each book for the year, just swapping out photos. If I can plan for this, I won't panic and throw something together last minute which makes it less likely that I'll make those kinds of mistakes again. I'm sure I have typos on my pages (I do in every book so far), but those don't bother me. It's just because it's on the title page... although I don't think anyone else besides me will ever notice it.

Oh no! I sure hope you can get them to reprint it with the new title page.

I use a similar style cover + title page for all my books, but it is also the last thing that I scrap before making a book. I like your idea about being more proactive with that. I'm usually rushing them to make a sale deadline.

I am so sorry.
I can understand you. It's hard to have a mistake on the title page.
I'm sure they will reprint the book and I hope they will change the title page (I think the USA has a very good customer service...so maybe you have a chance...I think here in my country a change wouldn't be possible...)
I have some typos in all of my photobooks which really bothers me. Most people don't see it...but I know them and that's hard for me...

My goodness! I finally actually looked at my book and the number of typos is astounding! Where was my head? I have two weeks in a row with the same dates marked on the calendar. And my journaling for the kids' first day of school says Monday when they started on a Tuesday. Those are just a couple of the big things. I'm sure there's more. The more I think about it, I'm just going to let the cover go and we'll just remember this as the book I should have proofread better :-)

Oh no! Frustrating for sure. I've noticed a bundle of typos in my book - a lot of "adn" instead of "and." Also I missed the white border outline on some photos in one week and that is just driving me nuts. And those are all printed pages. I could individually print those again but honestly - looking back in 10 years my kids are just going to laugh b/c this is all pretty normal for me. :D

Both were thrown together last minute, which that's where most mistakes happen.

Is there any other way? :giggle I ALWAYS am scrambling as a coupon or sale is about to expire to figure out what to do for my cover. To the point where anytime I see a layout that could possibly be used as a cover, I save it so I can lift it for my own covers later.

Sorry about the off center cover and typos. I think we all have typos. And if it makes you feel better the finished book will sit on a book shelf where no one can see the cover, so as long as the spine looks good, you're all set! (did that work? Wouldn't for me either) ;)

Thanks everyone. My husband talked me off the ledge last night and I'm beginning to make peace with my imperfect book. Still not thrilled, but starting to see the good stuff about the book instead of just the bad.

omg! I thought I was the only one that felt like this! glad I found you all! I'm not the only one! Last year I made my first family yearbook and printed it with blurb. was beyond excited when it arrived. however I was so afraid to read any of the journaling worried to find a typo! LOL! I found a missing bracket that bugged me a little but got over it! LOL! Currently waiting for my 2014 yearbook....

I just got mine...and kicked myself I paid for 10 extra pages! With nothing on them...I added a ton, and forgot to remove them..a.r.g.h. but typos, I see them like glaring blemishes....don't tell a soul. When one of my kids see them, I tell them, I put that there, so you could find it....bhahahhaha

Oh no Anne. I can totally see myself doing that. I always add a pile of pages like that so its easier to drag and drop my layouts in there. I'm actually rather surprised they didn't catch that when they printed and call to ask if that's what you really wanted.

Oh no Anne! Could you hand everyone a sharpie to have them write their reflections on the year and pretend like you meant to have those extra pages? I've done that too before though... I think it's one of my 2013 books has a couple blank pages at the end.

The typos make me nuts. My MIL was here a couple of weeks ago. She loves to look through my books. At dinner we were talking about them and how much she loved them. I made some comment about making peace with my typos and the woman said... oh yeah, like the one on page XX and the one where you were talking about Clara's doctors appointment and the one... I nearly lost it. Wasn't she just supposed to pretend like she didn't see them (or if she did, that they really weren't that big of a deal)?!?!? :stars

Tracie, can you just add some hybrid additions to your book to correct the title page or balance the cover? If you keep them thin it shouldn't really bother the book. It would make the book special/different. Peace.

oh no im soo sorry, with my last book i overlapped one of the week pages with a other week page, i just saw it in time with a digital shutterbook. so i could call and i recieved 1 chance to fix. But this was right after the order.

Mabey you can try what lindzee said. and hopefully they will help you

Yes, I'd take them to task over the issue with your cover. It seems like they should have picked up on that in their QC process.
