I've spent all morning fighting with Photoshop. It was freezing, so I did that thing where you reset your preferences at restart. That was a huge mistake. After trying to "fix" all my preferences, and feeling like I was going to toss my computer across the room because I could NOT make those annoying boxes when you move an element go away -- I finally got my preferences backup from Backblaze and got things back to normal.

If you ever feel the need to reset your photoshop -- find your .psp file and make a copy first. Lesson learned (I hope)

Anyway, I'm afraid to see if my "replace color" is working again. I don't use it often, but I do like it sometimes. I finally just resorted to the magic wand selection and filling it.

Regarding the bounding boxes annoying thing there is a gear at the top and that is what i did and it turned them off. I will screen shot it tomorrow and send you my setting as that always drove me batty and took me a while searching the web to figure out hiw to get rid of them!

@elseepe i found it online.. this is the gear and what you need to turn off .. hope that helps., i unchecked all those boxes

Ugh, what a pain. Every now and then I will open mine and it's just blank...no workspace, no toolbars, no panels, nothing...drives me nuts! Hope everything is working well for you now!!

I actually reported the issue with 'replace color' at Adobe in October. PS froze instantly, as soon as you wanted to use the color picker. The community came up with a quick fix / workaround (that worked, at least for me), and Adobe promised to fix it and they actually did. When you update PS, it should have the fix. This was the workaround for the color picker in case you need it.

I got the main workspace restored, now I just need to look at how to keep the "origin" point from scrolling wildy every little bit when I'm zooming in and back out.

Thank you, Christa. I searched and tried everything on line that I could find, but sometimes it's about knowing what those things are called.

I will look at that, I've been hesitant to upgrade to the next "version" (27), but I may have to if this doesn't work. It seems to have started fairly recently since I last updated the 26 version.

It started after an update (don't know which one) that came out in October. I have not encountered any problems with v27 so far.
Hope you'll have a working PS soon, @elseepe !

I found that setting and that does seem to solve the problem for now. I'll likely wait until after MOC to update to version 27, but nice to know that you haven't encountered issues with it so far. I never know what it's going to change for me, so I tend to wait a bit.

So sorry Lisa! I hope it's smooth sailing from here on out.
