Typewriters?

Does anyone use a typewriter for journaling on your pocket cards? If so, which one? Do they even still make working typewriters or can you find vintage typewriters that still work and you can still purchase ink cartridges for? Thanks.

I know Renne uses one for her cards (I think).. (she seems to be your go-to girl for questions these days, Amanda, lol..) My dad still has his old one that I'll use occasionally when I visit.. I'm sure Heather would be a great resource for all things typewritery, too..

Thanks, Amber. Maybe they will chime in. I have some typewriter fonts but I am thinking there is nothing like the real deal.

I got one at goodwill but decided to give it away because I didn't want to pay for the cartridges. LOL!!!!

I have a vintage typewriter but I don't have space to set it up permanently so I just don't use it. :( I'd love to and maybe one day I'll be able to make better use of it. You can still buy new electronic typewriters that probably work much easier and better than the vintage ones. Michelle Baxter was the one that mentioned this to me so maybe she'll chime in as well. I think it is Brother that still makes them.

I saw one at an antique store the other day and thought about buying it. I used to love typing on my Mom's typewriters over the years. But the cartridge in the one i saw was a mess and I didn't want to mess with finding one the fit. I actually think a new typewriter would be super fun.

i use the one that made the dry ribbon font. it's a hermes rocket. i found it at a flea market. before buying one, i always put in a scrap piece of paper and test out each letter. making sure the ribbon is good (enough) and it doesn't get stuck. i don't want to have to mess with repairs or ribbons, i want ... for lack of a better term ... plug and play. ha.

Do you know if the new ones still give that old typewriter look?

I found a bunch of vintage ones on etsy and if I had a couple hundred dollars to spare I would snag one up in a hurry.

I doubt it. I assume things would line up better than on the vintage models but I have no first hand experience. I found my typewriter at a consignment shop for $20, the ribbon is a little worse for the wear but still works. I passed on a lot of vintage typewriters that cost a lot more $$ so when I found one in my budget I snapped it up.

All right!! I am so excited. I just happened to search Craigslist after posting this thread and I found this vintage bubble gum pink Royal Quiet De Luxe. I still am so excited about it. It's in such great condition. Just a few scratches on the body but nothing major. I have, however, been working round the clock to dig it out from under MANY years of dirt and grime, ewwww..... It's cleaning up nicely though. I was about in tears when I first bought it because all the keys were sticking etc... but after continuing to work with it and cleaning it the keys are all working great. I have to order a ribbon and I think I will be all set. I hope any way.

I took this photo before I started any cleaning. I wanted before and afters. The girl I bought it from had it on display in her home and I still can't figure out why she never would have thought to clean it. Probably how I got such a great deal. I am sure she doesn't realize either how valuable they actually can be.

That is fantastic Amanda! You sure did a great job cleaning it up! It looks brand new! what a great find!

That is so beautiful, Amanda!! I love it. I took two years of typing class in high school and I think it would be fun to type on an actual typewriter again.

So cute, I would like one like that just to look at all day! And use for my kids PL albums!
