Happy National Trail Mix Day!

Trail mix is a mix of nuts, dried fruit and grains made for taking on hikes. I grew up going on a lot of hikes with my family and my mom would always pack trail mix for us. Our trail mix usually consisted of peanuts, almonds, sunflower seeds and raisins.

When’s the last time you had trail mix?
What do you like/not like about it?
If you were to make your own trail mix, what would you include?

Last time I remember having trail mix was when our cub scout den made their own baggies of trail mix. We had bowls of peanuts, Cheerios, raisins, and sweets (chocolate chips, M&Ms, mini-marshmallows, etc.). The scouts and siblings had a great time filling their baggies with their favorites.

My sister makes a great trail mix with Honey Nut Cheerios, but I haven't had it in years.

I was listening to a comment about trail mix today and it talked about how America calls that mix "GORP" (good ol' raisins and peanuts) but that New Zealand calls it "schmogle" or "scroggin" and Austrailia calls it "scroggin" also.

So, is that true? Or an internet lie?

My dad always called it Gorp, so that was familiar to me, although mom called it trail mix, and that is what I use.

(You should hear the soda/pop/soda pop/coke arguments!)

I eat trail mix all the time. Aldi has some fun mixes, and I bought a chocolate banana one from Sam's Club a bit ago.
I like the salty/sweet mix of chocolate and nuts.
I do make my own! Because I don't care for some of the dried fruit. My most recent concoction was dried banana chips, M & M's, cashews, almonds, and walnuts. I also made one with craisins instead of banana for munchkin.

Hubby likes trail mix which he buys prepackaged from Costco from time to time. He used to get it a lot when the kids were little and would bring it along as a snack for days out or for hikes. I'm not a huge fan mostly because I'm not crazy about raisins.

I loved Honey Nut Cheerios growing up! I’ll have to try adding that!

I’ve never heard any of those terms for trail mix.

I grew up saying pop but now I say soda.

Your mix sounds delicious Courtney!

My kids and I don’t love raisins so I just buy nuts instead.

I like trail mix and see it so many different ways..

My favorite is full of chocolate
Chocolate covered rasins ....yogurt rasins.
Mms .. Mixed nuts or chocolate covered ones
And dried fruit picies such as strawberry or mango or both

When’s the last time you had trail mix? My hubby always buys a ton for his fishing week in June and then brings the leftovers home, so I think I had some sometime in June?

What do you like/not like about it? I love the salty/sweet combo. I really don't like the random peanut skins that are left at the end of the bags. :giggle

If you were to make your own trail mix, what would you include? Must have a least a couple M&Ms. I like nuts (prefer cashews) raisins, sunflower seeds and M&Ms. But I also love the mixes that have dried pieces of tropical fruits in them too. Yummy!

When’s the last time you had trail mix? within a few days
What do you like/not like about it? I wish there were more offered without so much sugar. I want mine just a little sweet.
If you were to make your own trail mix, what would you include? several nuts and seeds, one kind of dried fruit, a few chocolate chips

Also, can we have a technology or magic someday to keep our mixes perfectly mixed in a balanced way, so every handful has every ingredient? :D

Usually I'm too lazy to make my own and I just buy this: Wegmans Chocolate Fruit & Nut Trail Mix

It has been YEARS since I have had trail mix of any kind... my hubby is extremely allergic to tree nuts and peanuts. Which is kinda beneficial for me since I LOVE nuts, but really don't need the additional calories! :lol

I agree that every handful being the perfect mix would be the best!

I’m sorry about your hubby’s extreme allergy but I’m glad you’ve found the silver lining. ;)
