we're having a storage crisis for the kids' stuff.
we've got the books and clothes covered, but the toys... :helpy

we've got two of these that work ok...

and one cubby like this with the baskets to fill 'em

but, both of these are ok for smaller things that actually fit in the bins. what about everything else?

so, would you be willing to show your toy spaces (messy is totally ok - we ALL know how that goes :rollingpin)!??!?!?! would love to see both playrooms and bedrooms (nothing weird - just toy storage!!!)

i'm really just inclined to believe it's time for me to do a huge purge here!!!

I am gonna watch this thread too because we are going through major toy issues at the moment. It's seriously awful! We are for sure doing a purge next weekend.

We went with simple shelves in the toy room. A whole wall of them. That way we could put baskets, plastic bins, or even bigger toys on them. In the boys room, I went with Cubby Shelves with canvas buckets. The cubby shelves also fit some plastic bins.

I'll show you pictures when the youngest goes down for a nap.

We have shelves down stairs for the bigger toys, with some baskets mixed in. Upstairs it is mostly hidden in the cabinets in the entertainment center. I am hoping in our next house we can have one room for all the toys and if so I am going to IKEA (which, thankfully Brussels has 3 of them) and revamping the whole system.

we have a this in the room with different size bins

and a few of these slip under the beds

everything else goes in the closet which is well-organized most of the time and is locked. We trade out toys if the room is picked up and occasionally rotate what is in the room.

PURGE THEM! :giggle I did it at the end of November - DD's birthday is in December, then Christmas is round the corner so I knew that we would be inundated with more stuff! Some of it I got the kids to help with (sorting out "baby" toys to give to charity) and some of it I did sneakily while they were at school / preschool. I just removed some stuff I was sure they didn't play with and kept it out of the way for a while. They didn't ask for it so now it is destined for the next charity run!

Oooh I want to watch this as well because we too have the cubbies/shelves. And "meh".

Lori we just bought that for our entryway.

I guess the biggest problem with shelves is keeping them neat looking? But at the end of the day, it's off the floor and I don't have to look at it in the basement. I've thought about putting curtains on velcro for these, but never got around to it:

And these are the boys shelves:

(Looking at these pictures, I'm not sure if that helped much, lol.)

We have TROFAST units from IKEA and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them.
Here is our setup before we put up the bookshelves above the toy box so please don't mind the mess.

We keep our toys in our finished basement. They have a big area there where we have this large cubed bookcase from Ikea.

We use this Ikea sideboard (Bonde) as a console behind our big couches in the TV area near the playroom and store all of the kids board games and puzzles inside. It works great.

Their books are in their bedrooms in these bins from Land of Nod outlet (which is local to me):

Carolee I think those are the cube storage that we have in the boys room. Just in a darker color and without the doors. Don't you just love IKEA for this stuff.

We shelved half of Nicholas' closet in my last three houses. He's always had wide closets with sliding doors and he doesn't hang many of his clothes (being a boy and all). I was trying to find a picture but there's nary one to be found on my hard drive. Which means I either deleted the photos ... or ... they're on an undisclosed hard drive somewhere at home.

we have these as well but our shelves are white. WE LOVE THEM!!!! Both the girls share the one and once its full its full! If they get a new "collection" of toys ie; my little ponies they need to decide which old collection they are willing to donate ie; Mr. Potato head. It works SUPER well!

I just recently went through the reorganising of the kids toys, fun, fun, fun!. We have the bucket thingies too but you're right they are only good for small stuff.

I have heaps of these mainly 30 & 55 litres

and put all the bigger toys in them. The kids can still see inside them to see what they want out, they are coloured so it adds a bit of fun to the room. I have them stacked up on top of each other in Jaylen's room and they are under the bed in Tayla's room, her's are pink.

I also have padded storage ottoman's in their rooms too, so toys can go inside them but they also have some where to sit and read or use for a table or whatever they decide to do with it that day!

Oooh, I need some of these, what a great idea!

Both of my boys have smaller bookshelves in their rooms that we use for toy storage but we have these in the playroom. I love the adjustable shelves!... just simple bookcases...
