So we're moving to a new house in less than 2 weeks and after purging a ton of toys I want to better organize my boys playroom. Do you have any tips or pics of your playroom to share? I also need closet organizers but that's a whole other post in itself... :)

My idea of organizing is to throw out a few toys here and there while they aren't looking. LOL!

I use a lot of plastic stacking tubs for the small pieces and Legos. And then I also have some plastic drawer units. My boys don't have very many toys in their room anymore (at ages 5 and 7) but we have a rec room in our basement for them to play in. I have two plastic shelves sets down there and thats where all the toys live when they aren't being played with.

Dude I'm the toy organizing MASTER. I've had every single toy organized since both kids were born. Every person that comes in my house always just looks at all the toys (I have lots) and says WOW lol!
With having an in-home daycare it's a must, since teaching kids that each thing has a home is important :)

Find a shelf unit that can hold containers (not those cruddy little colorful ones) but actual Tupperware big containers with the big white lids like this

organize your toys in sections ie:
I have a
Car Bucket
Little People Bucket
Block Bucket
Lego Bucket
Toy Story Bucket
exc...
teach them that it's important to take out 1 bucket at a time, so they get the take 1 toy out and put it back if you want a different one. and at night my toys go "night night" so the kids help tidy them up so they can have a good night sleep for the next day. It's the best system for us, I have NEVER lost 1 toy nor have I had a broken one. By putting the lids on them when they are not in use keep the dust out, I also NEVER clean up the toys, both my kids (since they have been toddlers) and all the daycare children know that I give them a 5 minute warning then after that 5 minute warning we sing the clean up song, it's fun and they clean up really good

we did this last winter.
All the lables include a picture for the kids who can't read. It works really well - it's quick to clean up even when they've emptied most of the bins at once (everything is from ikea)

i've pretty much done the same thing as everyone else has said... the big heavy duty plastic bins seem to work the best, and i definitely use the lids to make them more stackable (better use of space). i've also used those big 3 drawer systems that rubbermaid makes for legos because our legos have most definitely outgrown one little bin. we are planning to redo the legos even further and sorting them back into individual kits (which sounds like a nightmare, so i'm putting it off) and then putting each kit in a smaller bin. yes that will be a lot of bins, but i think it will be worth it in the end to have them accessable and manageable once again. the legos in this house have gotten out of control!
