Congrats on the new machine! happy dance, happy dance
I sew a LOT (well, used to sew a lot!), so this is a fun thread for me. I am the proud owner of many machines, but I recently donated three vintage machines to the drama department of a local college (I used to collect them, but ran out of room!). Right now I own a Viking Rose, a vintage Singer featherweight, an vintage 1876 Domestic Treadle Machine - still in working order, a 1950's era Singer in a beautiful oak cabinet that was Dad's wedding present to Mom, and a Brother serger. My DD has a newer-model Singer that's a reproduction of an older model, and although I'm not a fan of the newer Singer machines, it sews like a workhorse! I'm currently sniffing around at a Brother coverstitch machine, but that will be for when I really start sewing again.
Before kids I sewed everything - most of my clothes, my wedding dress, quilts, home dec, curtains, slipcovers, whatever suited my fancy. After kids I sewed their heirloom-style christening gowns, using leftover fabrics from my wedding dress. I just haven't the time anymore. I've made a few quilts here and there, but not like I used to. I've been known for churning out quilts back in the day. Now, I make my daughter's skating costumes. That's about it.
I've plans to make a lot of things - and the fabric, too - when I have the time. But my guess on that will be when DD leaves for college in a year. Yikes!
