Anyone do this?

I suck so bad at swimming. I'm exhausted after 1 length, which is very annoying to me, as I am in pretty good shape. I took a few private lessons last summer at the rec, and it barely helped. Still suck. Did a triathlon and was literally the last woman out of the water. Which didn't really bother me, as I still finished (which many didn't), but I know I can do better than this.

A few people had recommended this Total Immersion method to me. But the only instructors for it that I can find are like 40 minutes away. I bought the DVD and book but meh. Really didn't put any effort into it.

A friend asked me to do another triathlon this year so I figured I really needed to get a handle on this, so I booked a block of lessons. Expensive. But omg! I had the first one today and already there's a big difference! I never got winded, and I actually enjoyed being in the water!

They are all about form and balance in the water, which is what I was lacking. My head was always too high, my hips too low, which I KNEW, but I didn't know how to fix it.

Literally the first drill changed my position in the water and made me go OHHHH.

Can't wait to see how much progress I make in 10 weeks! (I bought a big package LOL)

Anyone else a swimmer? Or wannabe?

That's so cool! I never took swimming lessons as a kid. I learned when my uncle threw me in the deep end. I can't do any fancy strokes at all because I feel so awkward, so I just swim underwater instead. :)

I wish I knew how to swim better. I didn't grow up swimming very much and I have a fear of water, to be honest, since I am not a strong swimmer. I am determined that my boys will KNOW how to swim though.

That is really interesting, I have never heard of that program. Can't wait to hear how you end up liking it!

Mu Mum and her best friends were the swimming teachers at our smal primary school. And who were the last two kids to learn to swim? Embarrassing all around..
Can swim sort of now but still a struggle. My kids all did swimming lessons and my daughter swims every second week at school. Good luck with the program, always good when you have such a positive first lesson.

Swimming is virtually compulsory when you live in Australia, but compared to most people I am not a strong swimmer. I would love to get better though and have been tempted to do some lessons.
I've not heard of immersion swimming though...what does it mean. (yeh I will google if everyone ignores me!)

That's pretty cool Angie! I've never heard of it!

INteresting...I hadn't heard of it either. I'm a sucky swimmer too. I mean, I can swim and all, but its not pretty at all, and I definitely can't swim across the pool without coming up for air, lol.

It's all about efficiency in the water, Eryn. They teach you how to glide effortlessly along, rather than kick and flail like I have been doing. lol

I was on the high school swim team back in the late 70s. It was fun and we were able to travel all over Europe to swim against other American kids. I think I did alright at the time and love to go to the lake during the summer.

Swimming is the one part of a triathalon that scares me~ I can swim, just not a strong swimmer. Let us know how it goes if you continue to do this method.

very cool! i swam competitively from age 8 - 18 ... and then did masters swimming for a few years too (really want to get back into masters swimming actually) - i LOVE swimming - i've done a few triathlons and i always get sad that the swim is so short compared to the bike and run :) LOL! i need something where the run and swim distances are switched - hahahaha ...

anyway - so excited for you to be improving your swimming! it's such a great thing to learn and also such a great sport - easy on your joints :)

I want to join the masters swim club here, but they want you to be able to swim 300 meters without drowning, so maybe after a few more lessons. LOL

good masters programs typically have such a range of swimmers and wealth of experience, they truly are a great place to learn.
