My hubby and I are crazy organized. He got his ONE W2 today. We are parents of a bunch of kids, and taxes refunds HAPPEN here! My husband filed today! lol
Soooooooooooooooooooo do you jump on the tax refund quick or do you (eep, have to pay) and wait until the last possible moment.
I still get a refund too, and I got my W2 yesterday, I'll file sometime in the next few days....it'll go back out for bills as soon as it gets here anyway.
Immediately if not sooner! We bounce back and forth between paying and receiving depending on how many kids went to college that year...either way, I need to know asap if I should cry or celebrate.
Hmmm it wouldn't have been me who had plans Tuesday (things to do around the house) but all stopped when the w2 came. Had to wait for another form but should be finishing it up this week.
I love my tax refund!
I'm still waiting for hubby's W-2. The second I have it, I will be filing. Then I'll be checking the IRS and California websites constantly for updates. Refresh, refresh, refresh...
I usually don't get to mine until about late February or early March. As a CPA (who doesn't do taxes) I try to have estimates done so that I will at least know if it is a pay or refund kind of year. Thankfully my hubby takes the kids out on a Saturday for me to hole up in my office and knock them out.
As each kid moves out, I take longer to fill them out LOL DH had a couple of years where he was either drawing unemployment or something like that and no taxes were taken out, so tax filing time made me nervous. I am really glad in those years that I have a LOT of taxes taken out of my check every month. I always put off filing with the state until the very last minute because we always have to pay. Neither one of us has received our W2's yet, but I will probably do them as soon as we get them.
I am fortunate enough to have our CPA dept at work do our taxes for free. I generally get them our stuff by the first part of Feb. and should be done by mid-Feb.! Definitely don't wait until last minute - we generally get a refund as well.
My daughter did hers last night. We do ours right before the deadline. We usually get a refund, but it just takes us forever to get organized. My hubby is a banker/credit underwriter for goodness' sake, but he is terrible with all things financial. He usually loses things and doesn't have all of the paperwork. I'm a receipt hoarder (the nice word for it) and deduction queen. I save every stinking receipt that has sales tax and I add them all up and usually save us a few thousand in taxes. Hubby used to tease me about it until I saved us $8000 one year. Now he keeps his mouth shut, and last year he even input everything into the spreadsheet for it. I also save and snap pics of the receipt as a fundraiser (shoparoo) through Kennedy's school, so now the receipts are doing double-duty.
I'm hoping we get a decent refund back this year because it would be nice to put toward a vacation for early 2017.
So two years ago someone else got our refund. According to the IRS it is pretty easy to e-file using someone elses info. They don't even need the correct income. Isn't that special? So filing now is crazy. We have to get a pin number which the IRS sends us automatically. Which of course when you get an envelope from the IRS, we immediately think, crap we are getting audited. But we try to file as soon as possible, when we can.
We send them to an accountant to file them. They usually have them back within a week in we get them in before February. We are waiting on the W-2, which we should hopefully have soon! I have started gathering all the school stuff together. Usually we get a small federal refund, and own the state about the same. I've never understood why federal can withhold correctly, but the state can't. Sigh.
We usually get a refund, but we wait until mid-March get our taxes done. You know, making sure we have ALL of the paperwork. I will have a W-2 this year for the first time in almost 20 years. We aren't rich, but we do have investments and have to wait for a lot of that paperwork to come in... retirement planning started when I was in my teens.
When I used to do the taxes, They'd be filed as soon as I got all the paperwork. Then my hubby wanted to learn how to do them and I happily let him... he drags his feet a lot longer though. It doesn't really matter though because even though we always get a refund, the entire amount goes towards next year's school tuition for my boys, so it's not as fun as it used to be. We used to use that money to take fun trips.
After I get all the needed paperwork, we give them to our accountant for the refund. I'm waiting on a lot of our still. This year I will email over the documents, and then I think we stop by his office to sign. Usually, the refund is headed toward summer camp for my boys. It's crazy expensive!
