...and therefore, weight gain :giggle

If you'd like to share your favorite dessert here, feel free to do so. But what I'd really like to know is, do you have a secret to keeping holiday weight gain down?

I am hoping the extra miles put in walking will help! I used to work out all the time, but some structural issues makes it more and more difficult to lift weights or to jog. I have been walking at least 10 miles a week, however. Fingers crossed that will help. Because I sure do love chocolate candies, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and chocolate cake. I can't seem to say "no" to them.

I eat mostly low carb so at Xmas time I make a few low carb desserts like this one.
Keto Blondies

I don't eliminate anything during the holidays but eat sparingly i.e. one choc chip cookie when visiting someone instead of 3 or more. Choose one dessert at a party, not 2-3 and only eat half.

For dinners, I cut way down on the serving of starches and higher carb veggies and forego most bread/buns.

For alcohol, I have a bit of wine or low carb cooler rather than the sweeter, higher calorie choices.

This is my philosophy: It doesn't matter as much what you eat between Christmas and New Year's, it's more important what you eat between New Year's and Christmas! This the season to eat! LOL

I'm not much of a dessert person though - I LOVE FOOD! We usually just have extra candy, like chocolate boxes. There are certain candies that are only sold at Christmas.

Here in the USA - they are making lower calorie and lower alcohol content wines. I like them - but they do come across as a watered down version of the original.

@ArmyGrl Was looking for a meme to add to an e-mail - found this, and come to think of this thread LOL

I’m with Rae and like to let myself eat sweets but limit how many. I like to snack on chocolate chips so instead of grabbing a handful at a time I grab one at a time. Also, I try to bake and buy as little as possible so there’s less to tempt me.

This is very sage advice! I have better willpower in the store - to say no thanks. Much less willpower when the junk food is in my home....and all baked up.

This time of year is my favorite. I have the worst sweet tooth. And sweets just migrate to my mouth. As for keeping weight off. I got a membership to the ymca. I'm going to swim laps or walk the treadmill...

Swimming is so awesome! And your siggie picture is :yowza
Thanks.. I spent quite a few hours the other day drawing it and another one of eric and i. Trying to get back into drawing vectors again. The details are killing me..but worth it. Kinda gave up on my bouquet on the other drawing I did and just photoshopped it..haha..
And I swam on swim team throughout my younger years ..so it's always nice to get back jnto the pool. Part mermaid I guess...

@ArmyGrl This is my fave right now. I had it at a concert recently, grapefruit flavor. It isn't very sweet, it's more tart, which I really like.

I’m on a prescription that makes me nauseated if I have too much sugar, so I’m good. I hate a slice of apple Pie and paid for it soon after. It’s the potatoes and breads that get me during the holidays!

I am not too much of a sweet eater except for brownies! I have pancreatitis so that keeps my weight down, but I do like to walk my grandson.

I like to send the extra sweets home with people after a gathering because otherwise we all eat too much. For thanksgiving I usually make a lot of veggies for sides and do light versions of them, so I'll fill up on those and not have room for too much dessert. Plus we always have four teenage boys for the holiday gatherings and they hoover up all the food most of the time. :giggle I also try really hard to fit in my workouts during the weeks like normal even if I have to move them around holiday stuff. I do elliptical to cut down on the impact on my joints and do light weights and planks and abs on the matt. I'm luck to have a work out buddy and we try to keep each other going.
