So... I'm settling into my new laptop, and Windows 10, nicely. I still have to transfer photos from the new laptop to an EHD, but I'm getting closer to done. I'm not using my MBP, but my son is loving it now that he can!

I've got Bridge going for Scrap Organization... loving this.

I've got PSCC going for scrapping and photo editing, love this too... but I have found that PSCC is has so much more than my old PSCS6. There are more items in the menus and other things that actually throw me off when scrapping. My hand is used to moving so much or so little, that I struggle to click on the right thing, lol!

I've got Lightroom for Photos, and have imported 2 years. That is all I pry till import but add new photos as time goes on for now. I am not sure if I like this. There is so much power here that I will not utilize, so I'm unsure still. Plus, I don't know that I like the organization. BUT... I'm trying and will continue to do so.

I'm using Chrome for internet... and find that my images look fuzzy. I think it is from the screen that came with the laptop, being that it is 4K. I've tried Firefox and same issue. I've played with the settings, but nothing has worked. It's slight, and I do think I'm picky, but.... I have deduced it is the screen because when looking at my layouts from my work monitor, they are not as fuzzy to me as they are at home.

I have Argus by Tumasoft running so I can see... everything. (Thanks, @Rikki)

I also have Seer running so that I can press the space bar and see things like an instant preview (a mac feature that is not on a Windows based computer).

I don't see a way to sort in explorer by date saved, with the ability to mix kinds of files. Right now, folders are on top, and then items are below, and no way that I know to mix them all together, and sort by one main tab.

So... what tips or tricks should I know? Are there apps that you use that you love? Is there something you can live without?

I'm still bumbling along, slowly, and don't realize something is different or wrong until I find myself in that particular situation and then I'm off googling how to change, fix, etc.
 
Explorer is easy, click on any of the headings (Name, Date, Type, Size) and it will sort by that item. Click again and it will reverse the sort. Default is Name which gives you folders first.
 
I hope you learn to love LR. I don't use all the power of editing photos or even scratch the surface but I personally find it the most intuitive program I've ever used. ymmv of course as we all find our own favorites.

Mentioning Seer, I only learned to use the F3 button about two years ago!! No one told me about that one. ???
 
@jk703 I am glad you like Argus. It is a great little program and so so helpful.

I am sure there are tons of tips and tricks that will come up by and by.

Sandy.... do you know of a way to sort both folders and other items in the same list. When I sort, they are always separated. @wvsandy Thanks! :)

Sorta so it will read:
File Folder
document
image
File Folder
image
Filed Folder
Document

Right now it sorts:
File Folder
File Folder
File Folder
Document
Document
Image
Image

I'd like to get the top mixed one so the ones that I saved to last will appear in that order. :)

Like Sandy said you can click on the headings to sort. But I have another trick I use that I think is what you're talking about with sorting by date saved. In windows it's called date modified.
Right click next to the file icons and select sort by > scroll down to more...
check date modified, click ok. That will add date modified to your options.
Then right click next to the file icons again and select sort by > date modified.
I think that will sort them for you the way your wanting.

Looks like you posted this while I was typing my other explanation. If you want it mixed also try the looking at the the group by option > more > date modified, which can be access by right clicking next to the icons. Not sure if that will work, but it might.

I just sound like I know what I'm talking about! :P Do you use a Windows computer or a Mac? :) I was Mac and have *just* switched to Windows.

Im windows and just upgraded to pse15 during moc (lol) I was using pse8
 
@jk703 - you can also try right clicking in the folder and choosing "group by" and then "date modified". It adds headers like today, yesterday, last week, last month, etc. but everything should be sorted by date. I use this at work sometimes when I'm trying to find something by date.

My favorite tip: If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, you can hold ctrl+scroll up and down to zoom. Both on the internet (at least Firefox) and in Photoshop (preference option).
 
Sort of... lol! You don't have any folders within that folder, lol! It looks like it's by name, right?

I would like my folders to appear in one group, and then no matter the type, sorted by date last saved. I can accomplish this by grouping, as the girls said above, I think. I'm playing now... I think I have to remember to be flexible, and realize I can't make it all as it was.
 
It's funny, I just realized - on my Mac (at home) I don't sort any folders by date, it's all icons in alphabetical order (or I'd never find anything) but on my PC (at work), I sort by date all the time when I'm looking for something. Everyone has a system that works for them - you'll figure yours out soon enough.

Nope. It's by date. I don't have any folders, but the .jpeg and .psd and .png are all mixed together by date.

Ok, wait I see what you see. It's by the date modified. Depending on how a template is saved, or how I create, the date created is much different than the date modified. Like the top layout. I just made it today, I think the other date is attached to the template I used.
 
ay yi yi...I left the PC world 10 years ago and can just imagine how flummoxed I'd be there now. Sounds like you are doing great Jenn!

Ah... I will try that... though I have a feeling the folders will be on top, but I like all the mixing you have! lol!

Thank you for this. I bothered @sm_amber so much last night while doing a simple ad, I was annoying myself. I didn't have the font, I didn't have the ad file, I didn't have the logo, I didn't know how to attach an image to the email (hadn't done that before yet), I didn't know if my email for was large, small or legible! : giggle Oh Man... reading that again, makes it sound horrible! I'm ready for the next one at least.
