Last summer, in the Clickinmoms Scavenger Hunt, I won a 50 page 8.5" square album from Artifact Uprising. I finally got around to deciding what to do with it this weekend. I don't really like the size for scrapbook pages, so I would rather have printed simple layouts of my best photos of the year. Unfortunately, this was kind of a year off from photography, after 6 years of intense photography study and practice, so I have few great photos from this year.

My next idea was to make a cookbook of my favorite recipes, something I've actually been gradually working on for a long time. Except I've been making 8x10 pages, and anyway I don't think I have could come up with 50 recipes.

Finally, I decided to do a History of Me album. I made a plan and wrote out a sort of table of contents:
1 title page

2 Before Me

4 Baby Me 1971 - 1975

6 Little Me 1976 - 1983

8 Teen Me 1984 -1989

10 College Me 1990 - 1993

12 1994 - 1996

14 1997 - 1999

16 2000 - 2001

18 2002

20 2003

22 2004

24 2005

26 2006

28 2007

30 2008

32 2009

34 2010

36 2011

38 2012

40 2013

42 2014

44 2015

46 2016

48 2017

50 Future Me predictions

Then I spent hours and hours (deprived myself of half a night's sleep) and in two days have created something I'm happy with. Here's a screen shot of the pages in my Finder. I'm not uploading them because I used my entire digistash, not just TLP. Although the background paper is from Fallen Away by Amber LaBau. :)

Here's my Teen Me page so you can see one closer up.

I'm feeling accomplished. And a bit tired of scrapping. Actually I could scrap longer; it's sitting in this chair so much that has become tiresome! But I have very much enjoyed all the trips down memory lane I've taken this weekend. :love

That is awesome!!! I am impressed that you had access to all those photos. I started a Me book several years back and then got distracted by another project. Congratulations on finishing yours!

I would LOVE to complete something like this. I've done a few pages about me, but have never really stuck with it. Your book is amazing!

this is seriously the greatest thing ever. i may have a few tears rolling down my cheek.
michele - does your family know you did this yet or is it going to be a surprise? i would have died to have something like this from my parents, or grandparents. sadly my mom has almost zero photos from her youth (long story there) and my dad has some but they are far and few between.

one day i will do something like this for my kids. i freaking love it!

Awww! :wub

Honestly, I didn't even think of making it a surprise. No one in my family is as sentimental as I am. I scrap, first of all, for myself.

But I get where you're coming from. With my parents, it's the opposite. Almost zero pictures of my dad, and just a small handful of my mom. And the photos of my other ancestors are quite the treasure, as there are even fewer. To make it worse, my mom dislikes talking about her past, and my grandmother is gone, and I'm not close to my dad or his side of the family, so I have only minimal knowledge of my early history or my ancestors. I would LOVE to hear more about my family history.

I've already shared the album pages with my husband and kids. He is kindly supportive in that "it's important to you so it's important to me" way, but he has no enthusiasm for memory-keeping. I can't fault him. His favorite hobby, painting miniature figures and playing with them in tabletop war games, and role-playing games in general, is something I only appreciate because everyone else in my family loves it. But when they tell me about battles and stuff, I get bored. I can't understand how someone could fail to be fascinated by a page full of photos, especially of familiar people, but I think my family members feel similarly, to varying degrees. They don't begrudge me and politely listen when I share at least, so that's good.

They may appreciate my prolific scrapbooking a few decades from now. But whether they do or not, I will continue thoroughly enjoying my scrapbooking and reminiscing, which is enough for me.

But I do like sharing my scrapbook pages, too, and I guess that's why I created this thread last night. After the lukewarm responses I got from my family after I cheerfully announced my accomplishment, I thought I'd come share here, with people who understand! :D

Aww, I'm glad you shared with us. We so DO get it. I think sometimes when there is a prolific photographer or scrapper in the family we sort of are taken for granted. It's expected and not seen as a novelty. I do think one day - might be many years from now, like you said - but one day they will really appreciate that album! For now ... you can cherish it and be proud of what you accomplished. The main reason I photograph and scrapbook ... is truly for the enjoyment I get out of it too. I wouldn't do it if I didn't love it/enjoy it. So understand.

I admit my family often does not see half the pages I create either. Which is why I need to move on getting my pages printed with my persnickety credits.

Wow, you did all this on one weekend, that bis awesome. The pages look great! It will be a treasure to you as well as generations to come. Maybe they don't appreciate it now, but one day they will.
