Here’s a fun little secret about being a digital designer: whenever I return from a trip, my camera roll is 60% photos of us or the scenery, 10% photos of flowers … and 30% photos of the textures of random walls and doors.
Street art is really fun for filling in spots on pocket pages like these, as are flower and plant shots.
But the real fun is finding amazing textures you can later use to create unique digital papers.
You can see The Husband using his height to capture a particular great patch of wall below, several years ago!

The daughter, meanwhile, would often bring along a book or magazine to fend off the boredom while I did my texture-hunting!
Now it's just The Husband and I travelling, usually.
Some of my favourite finds in recent weeks have been shadows on whitewashed walls and torn remains of posters in France, and pitted stone steps and cracked plaster in Greece. In the Greek village we were living in, there was a community cafe open 24/7 with an honesty box for the drinks, and old sepia photos of the village in bygone days on the walls. But I was most excited that on a shelf were some very, very old board games with their plain cardboard boxes covered in scribbles by generations of children.
It’s like a treasure hunt, and it’s just as much fun coming up with ways to create with the textures.
(PS I used the ‘What We Did’ template album for those pages)

Meanwhile, Rachel has been thinking about documenting the finer details, and the deeper stories behind her photos, as she scraps with the "Growth Can Be Hard" kit, which is also in this week's sale:
Here's how I used that one as well:
