October 19, 2016 - The day my beloved laptop died... For the last few months, it had been slowing down, just wasn't bright and perky like it used to be. I had been moving files over to external hard drives to free up some space, doing disk defrags, but nothing seemed to help. And then yesterday morning, I was typing my digital journaling, in the dark, and sipping my bullet-proof tea. All of a sudden, the screen crackled, and then it all went black. I turned on the light & I had slopped tea all over the keyboard, tea with lots of oils in it. Not good. I cleaned up what I could, removed the battery, unplugged it, turned it upside down to drain, but as of last night, while it turned on, it soon went dark again... I wonder if I subconsciously sabotaged it, wanting a new laptop but procrastinating because I didn't want to go thru the hassles of a new one? Plus Windows 10 plain old scares me to death.

Yesterday I did some on-line shopping while talking with a rep at a our local Office Max. Chad was so helpful, pointed me to their on-line store to show me the model that met my needs. So I bought it, it is being delivered today.

Wish me luck on installing everything and doing a restore. My biggest concern is Photoshop CS5. I just don't want to go to the Cloud right now. I'm not a fan of monthly bills. And I'm keeping a list of the few software programs I had, as they come to me. I'm sure it will be months before it is all how I want it.

so sorry @mcurtt Marilyn... Mine was on it's last legs last week as the fan stopped working and I had rigged a standing fan so I could use it.. we went and bought twin laptops for me & hubby and 2T EHD to transfer all my 3 EHDs to as one had data from when I had Vista and the new laptop kept saying I needed to repair that EHD and sometimes wasn't finding it etc... the 2T is compatible with windows 10 so hubby transferred all the EHD stuff over for me and got all my software loaded and got me up and working.. good luck.. I hope you saved all your actions, your brushes all the fonts etc... good luck with the new laptop and keep your Tea away from the new one :)

Oh no.... I'd be in tears! I'm so happy you have a new one on the way! Hoping the transfer and set up go smoothly!

I have to start planning for when mine follows yours. I will be so sad.

oooooooooooooh I love the undertones of perhaps you sabotaged it (with bullet proof tea none the less)....and believe a good page will be birthed from this..

Personally, I LUV new equipment but really hate the process of setup. Hope all goes smooth and yes watch out for the tea!

@AnneofAlamo On the way in to work today, I thought about taking pictures of my beautiful old laptop, before I pop out the hard drive and it gets recycled. So yes, a page may be in order.

Oh boy - so sorry about your beloved laptop!! :-(

It is fun to have something new and fast, but the hassles of getting it set up can be trying - at least for me!

Good luck and can't wait to see a page about it!

Oh no!!! But yay for a new laptop found and shipped so quickly!

Setting up a new computer is not my favorite thing. I hope it all goes well for you!!

It must be in the air.

My iPad is finally freezing up more than it's working. Adios my pretty! The MacBookPro is also beyond its 'use by' date but I'm not ready to make the decision - iPad or MBP. While the former is handy the latter is more useful. Both were hand me downs from my husband. And yes, I really don't like the transfer process and sometimes just do some of the software but Adobe of course! I'm ready for CC because it's cheaper than updating a hard copy of Lightroom.

Looking forward to seeing that page Marilyn!

I'm so sorry to hear this....... my computer also is VERY old and It is getting slower and slower... just do no want to spend the money right now on a new one!!

An update from DH... He called me from home, my new laptop arrived! So I get to start installing tonight. DH is totally computer illiterate, so it is all up to me. I'll google for help if I need to. I did set up his laptop & I save him from the snafus he gets himself into more often than I'd care to think about.

Good luck with all the set up!! Getting a new laptop is exciting, but time consuming in the beginning for sure! I can tell mine is getting old and slowing down, so I'm sure I'll be going through it sooner rather than later.

None of us like to see our computers get slower and then finally give up . . . but it's ALWAYS exciting to have new hardware that makes scrapping so much faster. No, I don't like installing all the programs again BUT I do love how quick everything is.

Moving right along... I've got my Photoshop installed, it recognized my external hard drives. Since I can't figure out the restore process, I'm just copying files from one location to another. It is working!!! Thanks for all of the good wishes, I'm sure that has helped. :-)

Sorry that your old faithful laptop has died, but I'm so glad to hear that you already have a new computer in hand and are already on your way to getting it all set up. It's a pain in the rear to get everything on a new computer back to just the right way, but hopefully you'll find it worth it in the end.

Sorry about your old beloved laptop. But glad to hear you are on your way to getting everything in order again! It is such a pain, but I think of it as a nice fresh start. Everything organized, fresh and new.

Sounds like the setup of the new one is going smoothly. I need to repair or replace my PC soon and I am dreading the switchover of files and softwear. ugh.

Hope it's still going smoothly! I love new equipment, but hate the transfer process!

Glad to hear things are going smoothly for you! I feel that soon I'll be on the same boat, :(

I thought of you as we spent time in the Apple store and found out that yes, my MacBookPro is beyond life support. I have no idea what I'm going to do next except kiss my iMac every morning! and say Don't Leave Me!!!
