Stupid freaking Walgreens.

Friday Zach came home feeling bad but by the time he said anything about it our doctor's office was closed so we took him to the Walgreen's Take Care Clinic. I told John *do not let them prescribe him amoxicillin - it does not work on him* he took so many antibiotics when he was younger he outgrew that by the time he was like 3 and has moved on past augmentin to having to take omnicef and generally a steroid as well. John was all "Duh... I know my son's medical history." He said he told the doctor there and she said OK, but she would try augmentin - to which John said OK. <_< Then he gets home and the medicine is amoxicillin. I told him that it wouldn't work. I called Walgreens the next day and told them it wouldn't work. And they basically told me too bad.
Zach isn't supposed to miss anymore days of school so I went ahead and sent him yesterday since he'd been on the antibiotic for 48 hours, so even if he didn't feel good at least he wasn't contagious. He came home with a fever of 102 so I basically said f- the school and kept him home today to take him back to the doctor's only this time we went to our doctor.

And guess what...
He still has a rocking bad case of strep because the amoxicillin wasn't strong enough. And guess what else... they put him on omnicef and a steroid. Thus the $100 case of strep.

Oh that stinks! A top rule of medicine - listen to your patient...they may know themselves better than you do.

Ugh, how frustrating! So sorry you had to deal with that! I hope the new meds do the trick!!

OH my gosh. I hate it when they won't listen to you like you are some sort of idiot!! I have had that happen when we've had to see different docs because we couldn't get into our regular. Realllly stinks.

How annoying Trish! Don't they know that parents know their kids best? I'm sorry your little boy is sick!

Same thing happens to us all.the.time! DD is allergic to everything put zythromax. Our peditrician knows this but when we go to a urgent care they don't believe us, because that is a lot of medicine's to be allergic to. Why can't docs listen to moms? I swear we do know a thing or two about our children!

Oh and boo on the school too! I hate the rules about missing so many days. Why do they want our kids to come to school sick? Okay I know they don't, but I'm sure you get my drift.

Yuck! I hope he'll feel better soon. Sorry that they didn't listen to you! Dummies!

Men...grrr...Kenzie had strep 4 times in kinder. Luckily she had a reaction to augmentin as a toddler so they never give her cillin drugs and we always go straight to zithromax.

Oy Im sorry. My son is allergic to everything under the sun. They at one point had to prescribe him an adult antibiotic after spending a week in the hospital. It was the only thing that was killing the infection and the pros outweighed the cons. Unfortunately it was a compound drug that had to be made at only specific pharmacies and each place we tried we heard "You can't give this to a kid. This is an ADULT medication" Right we get it. Oy Meds and sickness SUCK. I hope he is feeling better now.

That's so frustrating. I hope the proper drugs help. And boo to Walgreens. (And what was dh thinking?)

ugh. what a pain.
i've had 2 kids with strep in the last 2 weeks.
one was able to take amox. the other. not because she is allergic to amox/penicillin etc.
his meds for amox. was $4. her's was $25. i'm just glad it didn't cost $100.
so sorry, but hope he feels better soon!
