4 of my 5 kids come from an ex-husband. We take turns having them for Christmas day, this year is his turn.

My youngest is now 8. This is probably his last Santa year.

I asked him if he wanted to open his gifts on Christmas morning, or wait until the kids got back (which at the time, I thought would be the day after). He said he'd wait because "Christmas is about being together". iDie :beat At that point, I was going to go buy him a couple extras so he could open SOMETHING on Christmas day, then the rest with him.

But, they're actually going from Sunday-Sunday.

I am not going to make this poor kid stare at gifts for 5 days, so I figure we can just open them Sunday morning (early) before we leave.

But how do I resolve the Santa issue? He's old enough to know the date, so it's not like I can just tell him it is Christmas 3 days before it is.

Put one gift under the tree for him on Christmas eve?

We won't even be HOME Christmas morning, because we're going to go to a hotel that has a pool so he can have some fun on Christmas.

Ugh, not sure how to handle this. lol

I would either tell him that Santa knew y'all were going to be away on Christmas Day so he brought the presents early..or (and this is probably what I would go with), bring his santa presents to the hotel, cuz santa knows all including where to deliver presents for each kid on Christmas Eve.

But if they open their stuff early he won't HAVE any Santa stuff. Maybe I can go buy some. LOL

They only have 4 packages each, it's not like I can just skim a couple, KWIM?

Ang I would do exactly what you just said - he can open his stuff early with the other kids except for the Santa present (sorry gf you may have to get an extra) and smuggle it out of the case while he is sleeping and go with the whole Santa knew where you were.

We did this when we had to spend Christmas with out of town family one year and the small child was majorly impressed that Santa know where she was (the older one rolled her eyes lol)

we spent Christmas in a hotel in New Orleans last year. We told DD that Papa Noel knew that she was going to be in a hotel, so he'd bring her stocking to the hotel. Anyway, she never gets Christmas presents from Santa--we open ours on Christmas Eve after church so it's never been a problem--but she got her stocking at the hotel. Our suite had a faux fireplace with a mantel, which worked out well. :) What about telling your son that you've explained to Santa that you're going to be at a hotel on Christmas day, so you sent him a note--better yet, have your son mail him a note tomorrow--telling Santa where you'll be and to please come to your house early.
Otherwise, just have one of your older kids tell him the truth about Santa. KIDDING!

He probably already knows, he's the smart one. But I'm clinging on. :rofl

I will go pick him up a couple things to open at the hotel.

Now to find a hotel.

We always traveled at Christmas while I was growing up to be with family, but opened gifts from the other side of the family at home before we left. We also did Santa at home before we left and my parents just explained to us that Santa knew we weren't going to be at our house on Christmas morning and brought our presents early so we could have them before we left. It always worked for us!

I'd go with Amanda's suggestion and smuggle a present to the hotel.
We are usually away at Easter time and the kids love that the Easter Bunny finds them

He'll probably be thrilled to get his gifts early... like cheating the system a little. Ha ha! :) Hopefully he'll have fun with whatever you decide.

How cool would it be to have a bellboy come to the door to give it to him and say that Santa left it at the front desk for him?

Small glitch in the plan - forgot my 19 year old will be home. He won't really want to sit at hotel and I can't leave him home alone on Christmas. Lol

Maybe I can talk him into the hotel...

This actually gave me chills, which means it HAS to happen!!

I think you should come to a hotel in California. Just sayin'! Make it extra special!
