Do you have synaesthesia?

I can't comprehend synaesthesia at all, but both my girls and my husband seem to have it. Both girls are talking about their different colour perceptions at the moment after TJ likened an equation (1 + x + x squared + x cubed) to a rainbow. Both girls seem to relate colours to numbers, equations, musical notes and days of the week. But they both see different colours.

I'm contemplating interviewing the girls at some point after the exam period is over and creating some colour pages documenting their different synaesthesia experiences.

My daughter and friend were just talking about what color the various number were about 2 weeks ago. In fact, I asked her about it the other day. I agreed with some of their relationships. I do like even numbers significantly more than odd numbers.

My daughter's college apartment-mate did a research project on colors & numbers for a psych class. She did not find any correlation because people were not consistent. She also asked about colors and various vowel combos. In that she did notice that certain combos typically were darker colors than other combos.

Nope.. never heard of it before either. I am with Cheryl @gonewiththewind where a sound (music) taste or smell bring back a memory.. sometime I have premonitions and will think of someone I haven’t heard from in years and they will show up or call shortly there after.. I also think of things at the same time my husband does and we say it at the same time.. if only I could figure out what lottery numbers would be picked ahead of time lol

I do! Similarly, my numbers are correlated to colors. It's the reason I don't like fours. They're too bright (bright pink) and make me anxious. (Meaning I won’t eat 4 of something, grab 4 napkins from a dispenser, my husband can’t kiss me 4 times, etc) I took a class in college called "how the brain works" and when I learned about synesthesia, I felt like my entire life finally made sense!

I had never heard of this before and found the information about it interesting.

I am also like Cheryl in that smells and music bring to mind memories.

I don't. I find it absolutely fascinating though. That's really interesting that your kids and husband both have it!

I'm only visual when it comes to math. I see the numbers in my head, like a whiteboard, and can work the problem. Or, I write it in the air - which always makes my husband laugh.

Bianca used to have a music director that did. He related colors to music, numbers and letters. I was fascinated!

I have never heard of this! I definitely don’t have it because to me numbers don’t exist. Lol! Numbers downright scare me. I also obviously never did well in math!
