Sweet Tea?

I grew up in Florida and we lived off sweet tea or iced tea (we called it both). But I can't stand it now. It's like drinking sugar. But I loved it back then.

I grew up in an interesting house. My parents were born and raised in Minnesota and Wisconsin. So my mom cooked food that was normal for up there. We didn't have things like collard greens, grits, black-eyed peas, mustard greens, dressing (instead of stuffing at Thanksgiving). When I met my hubby, who was raised by his grandparents, who were true southerners, I was introduced to all of this southern food. I thought it was so weird. LOL!

How about BBQ. BBQ is big in the south but I've heard it's not everywhere?

I was born and raised in Alabama, then married my husband who is from Nebraska. At first, his family needed him to translate for me- evidently, they couldn't understand my drawl! He was in the Navy, so we moved to Norfolk, VA which is not very southern, as most people there are military or other transplants. Our kids were born in VA, then we moved back to Alabama in 2007 and still live here.
I have never said "buggy" for a cart, but 2 of my 3 kids LOVE sweet tea! My Dad makes the best tea and keeps it in a huge gallon-sized mason jar in his fridge. I am ashamed to say that I haven't been able to get any of my kids (or my husband) to appreciate grits. I LOVE them with butter, cheese, lots of salt and pepper and alongside eggs over easy! However, my husband and I started the Ketogenic diet this past spring so no grits for me anymore! Also no sweet tea. I usually just have water now.

Growing up in Iowa we brewed iced tea all summer long and a lot of times it would be sun tea. It was left unsweetened but those who wanted sugar could add it at will. Over the years I’ve found that I don’t care for Sun tea, I think it has a bit of a sour taste. Now, out here in Seattle, I hardly drink iced tea at all because it just doesn’t get that hot. Growing up in the 50s and 60s I do remember always running out of ice cubes and continuously having to fill those ice cube trays to make the iced tea during the summer.
