The moon is going to be awesome tomorrow! All the events collide together!
Munchkin is super excited for this event. So, I'll be up at some crazy morning time to see it with him. He's 7, he won't get up on his own. But he'll be heartbroken if he misses it.
Anyone else aiming to see it?

My kiddo will be on the way school when it reaches peak here so hopefully he'll get a chance to see it. He loves all things space and was soooo bummed to miss the eclipse last year.
For myself, I'll try to catch it mostly because it's a rare event and maybe try to get some pictures in case DS can't view it.

I am in the partial lunar eclipse area but they are predicting clouds so I am not going to try to see it.

Once again Courtney you amaze me with your knowledge, I would never of known! Maybe because my kids are grown and I try to avoid the news like the plague!

I'm going to try to get some photos in the evening so that way if I don't get up at 4:30, I won't be too upset. But I told each of the kids and my husband they HAVE to see the moon because it will never happen in their lifetime. My middle was quite saddened, almost to the point of tears, saying that a baby won't ever see it (remember) in their lifetime and they are missing out on such a special event. She's got such a precious heart that I hope she never loses! <3

We won't see much of the Super Blue here but my dh is on his way to Seattle to see his sister. She just celebrated her 89th birthday! Last night we were talking about the moon and he (retired from NOAA) that this kind of moon has such strong tidal pull that it often is the time of earthquakes as the pull on those plates cause shifting.

I was kind of fussing with him before he left as he had tank slacks on - which undoubtedly will come home with various stains from spilled coffee etc. I said why don't you wear black slacks! and his answer was "This way they'll see me more easily if I'm injured during an earthquake..." :hide

West Coast folks be safe!!!

The Besser Museum here in Alpena is hosting a "moon watch". We have to meet sometime between 5 and 6 a.m. It's an outside event (of course!) and baby it's COLD here!! But my daughter and I are going. They will have telescopes available, and I believe, coffee and hot chocolate. Sounds iike a fun time, if the weather cooperates!! Been dreary in the morning for the past few days.

It looks like for us it starts just a bit earlier than I usually leave for work. I need to make an effort to get out of the house faster so we can see. From my house I wouldn't be able to see anything at all because of a mountain and trees.

as soooo bummed to miss the eclipse last year.
Us too! I swear the only day Vegas was covered in clouds!

i think out west, alaska and hawaii are the lucky ones, right?
For the best views? Yes. But you should be able to see it on the way out the door if you are an early bird.

I try to avoid the news like the plague!
We do too. My son asks Alexa all the time when the next ______moon is. Especially the blood moon. He thinks that's so cool!

I have it on my "to-do" list as it is a once in a lifetime event. I know my dd wants to see it as well. However, I'm not sure how visible here in Maine it will actually be.

I'll look for it. I didn't know about it, so I'll have to go Google.

Basically: It's a Blue Moon because it's the 2nd New Moon in a single month.
It's a Super Moon because it's orbit is close to the earth.
And it's a Blood Moon because it's a lunar eclipse - which can make the moon look red.

I'm not sure what kind of view we'll have in the Valley; maybe since I'm up at the crack of dawn I should drag some coffee outside and take a look-see!

I saw the super moon tonight on my way home from work- hopefully I'll catch it tomorrow am on my way TO work! ;)

It is 10:55pm (Jan 31st) here, and the eclipse is starting right now for us. Just starting to cover up the "corner" of the moon. << Corner? Really Chippi? The corner of the moon? It is SO exciting, and Melody wants me to wake her up when it is getting closer to total so she can watch it.
BUT I am so mad at myself. I didn't think to check my camera today when we were talking about it, and it is completely dead flat. And I have no idea where my charger is... so phone photos it is. Yuck! And my camera takes brilliant photos of the moon! So bummed.

We are supposed to have rain tonight. I hope we don't, because I really want to see this. I must admit driving to the rink this morning and the moon was awfully big and bright the day before the big event.

I tried to look this morning, but it was cloudy so I missed it. Another guy that came in an half an hour later than me said he saw a partial eclipse and it look red-ish.
