Do you attend any summer events where you live? Or do you travel somewhere where there is a summer event to attend?

Do you have a favorite summer event you've done numerous times?

Is there a summer event you'd love to attend but probably never will?

I missed posting my Tues question b/c I was at a local summer event. We went to the Calgary Stampede for the first time. We moved here last year but didn't want to deal with the traffic/parking to get to the stampede and last summer it was scorching hot during the event so that turned me off.

However, this year our seniors club rented a bus for us to be driven over in the morning and then picked up in the late afternoon to come home. That was too good to pass up! We left at 10 and got home about 6:30. We really enjoyed it. It was fun to see everyone in their western gear. Jen and I bought cowboy hats. Temp-wise it wasn't quite as hot as last year but it was 32 C (90 F) so we tried to find things to do to cool off. We spent an hour in the wine and art pavillion which I could have spent all day in, the exhibits were amazing and the wine as good too!

We took the WestJet Skyride tram which cooled us off and gave us a great view, plus we also rode the ferris wheel, so we managed to find enough things to cool us off in between sweating to death.

Food sure was expensive but these days, what isn't ???

The next summer event we'll attend is the Okotoks Chili-Off and then a few wks later the Nanton Chili Off. Not sure if we'll make it to the rodeo in Nanton b/c I think I'll be participating in an artisan market that wkend but maybe...it would be fun.

used to attend loads of family summer events locally when the children were younger. Not so much anymore.

Does going to the aquarium for shark month count? We're driving to Orlando to go to SeaLife Orlando next Wednesday and it happens to be shark month right now. My son is so excited to 'meet' the bonnethead sharks, Mario & Luigi

I just try and avoid going outside as much as possible, especially now that the heat has arrived without much rain coming along. Hopefully that changes soon because it’s really HOT right now.

I don't go to as many now that my kids are grown, but there have been so many. Festivals/Carnivals in all the surrounding towns, outdoor concerts, food truck events, strawberry festivals, and the state fair.

There are several fun events in our little town that we like to do each summer. One is coming up this weekend which is an art fair that is nationally ranked and VERY popular here. I volunteer at it the whole weekend, so it's a lot of work, but also fun to see all the new art each year.

We also have another weekend called chalk the block where a bunch of chalk artists come from all over the world and compete too. Those are the two we are most likely to go too.
We don't travel very often for the same summer events anymore. We used to always camp up north in Michigan and would always take the kids to see the 4th of July fireworks. That was always a big hit and I have lots of fun memories of doing that.

There is a huge summer event happening this weekend near where I live, and I have never been and never will, cuz people. It's called the Oregon Country Fair. I'll be over on the coast where it will be MUCH cooler this weekend!

Sounds like fun Rae! I’m glad you were able to go.

I try to avoid the crowds so I avoid summer events lol

I like to go to the night swim parties our realtor holds but this year we’ll be gone.

I’ve never been to a rodeo so I would like to experience at least one.

The summer event in my town is next week. The Summer Moon Festival. It is held every year the weekend closest to July 20th, the date of the first moon landing. It takes place both downtown and at the Armstrong Air & Space Museum. It starts on Tuesday in the downtown area. By Thursday, the streets of downtown are closed and a stage is set up at one end where various acts perform on Friday and Saturday. There are events like bed racing, beer stein holding contest at the stage on Thursday. Friday has a car show, a corn hole tournament, a firefighter kiddie challenge at the fire station which is one block from downtown. There is also a vendor market along the street of downtown and another beer stein holding contest. Saturday has a fishing derby in the river (behind downtown), a farmer's market at the courthouse (2 blocks from downtown), a RC car Fun Run, antique tractor show, cardboard boat regatta on the river, a kiddie tractor pull, weiner dog races, another beer stein holding contest and lots of entertainment at the stage. There are lots of kid activities held behind downtown including bounce houses, a large slide, photo booth and lots more.

On Saturday at the museum there are meet and greets with a NASA astronaut and the Run to the Moon 5K/10K. All week long there are periodic costumed astronaut appearances at the museum. Sunday most events are at the museum with face painting, a balloon artist, a demo by a group of rocket builders, COSI on wheels and several other events. There is also a presentation by the Apollo 11 Frogman recovery team.

I used to go check out the downtown in the early years of it when it is was no issue for me to walk to downtown (parking close by is nonexistent) but haven't gone recently since walking that distance is much harder for me as I age. It is about 1.5 miles from my house and with a broken ankle this summer, definitely not even if I could find parking close by.
