Last night a plumbing fitting gave way in our upstairs bathroom. 2" of water in the laundry room and family room. I'll be getting new carpet in the family room and master bedroom. Strange way to get what we need! Also, my husband's having to clean through his junk in the basement. Yeah! But, Not fun sopping up water and throwing out wet stuff.

Umm, yea for new carpet? But that is a bummer. It sounds like you caught the leak pretty quickly, so you won't have to replace all the walls (wood, drywall, paint, etc), so that's a plus. And I bet you'll make lots of great LOs about this. You know, the "panic" LOs showing the damage and then the cool "before/after" LOs showing off the new carpet. See, there's always a plus side to a broken water pipe when you scrap. :giggle

I agree with Sara about scrapping it. There were some home disasters when I was growing up that I wish I had photos of . . . LOL . . . your kiddos might enjoy seeing that later.

And way to find the silver lining. I would love new carpet but I definitely don't want a leak to achieve it!

Oh, no! We've never dealt with a bad leak, but one time in Germany, my husband went to bleed the radiator and it suddenly started spewing hot water everywhere. Our oldest was not quite 2 at the time, and I was on bed rest, pregnant with our second, and it was quite the scene. I remember my little one just running around in circles in a panic babbling and then running for towels when he saw my husband running for them. I was just there on the couch helpless, watching it unfold and telling him to hurry before he ruined my Christmas tree, gifts and decorations. :giggle

Your before and afters will surely be fun to document. I wish I had a video or photos of our debacle. lol

Water damage is the worst! I spent a number of years managing single family housing and that was always one of our worst nightmares. Pace yourself on the clean-up and congrats on the new carpet!

I hate leaks. At least it's clean water and not sewer back up! LOL Happy you get to get a new carpet, though.

I'm so glad you caught it when you did. Sounds like your leak was a blessing in disguise to get the new carpet you've been wanting.

Water damage is hard to deal with. Hoping the clean up goes smooth, and you can get it all back to normal! At least the new carpet is the silver lining.

Oh, no!!! Sorry for the leak...that doesn't sound fun at all, but YAY! for new carpet! :) I totally agree that you should scrap this memory!

Oh no! I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this, even if the new carpet is a silver lining. Hugs!

Oh no! 2 inches of water sounds like a lot of water! But yay for the new carpet. At least you have the silver lining!

Not fun at all. We had a washer house but at least it was in the basement so we didn't have carpet to worry about.
Another observation -- water issues seem to be happening to a lot of people. The pond here at the lilypad must be overflowing. Sorry long week leads to weird sense of humor.

Oh not fun at all. Is this going to be an insurance claim? I hope it all gets settled soon for you.

Luckily our water leak disasters have been downstairs (kitchen/utility) where we have laminated floors.

Also, my husband's having to clean through his junk in the basement. Yeah!
This made me giggle! I had the same thought when our sump pump overflowed a few years ago. Yeah, for new carpet! Had you already been looking?

Our cellar flooded during our driveway redo when the workers left a ground floor opening just before a major storm. Somehow we both missed seeing that opening and ....ugh. It was a lot more like a foot of water in our cellar. I say cellar because our 1910 house has a dirt floor. While we did get rid of a lot of stuff that was ruined it amazes me that we still have so much clutter. We also now have a sump pump.
