I need help :flirty

I recently cleared out my spice rack...well actually my 2 year old got the process started...and although the clean up wasn't fun it was actually something I needed to do anyway...some of my spices were really old lol.

Anyhow so now I am pretty much starting fresh. So I need help...what are your staple go to spices?

Right now all I pretty much have is salt, pepper and home made taco seasoning...and the only reason those were saved is because they were in bigger containers where she couldn't find them :giggle....

It always seems like I am missing something in my pantry spice wise so I would love to know what you ladies keep on hand.

I am getting ready to head out the door to an appointment, but I will come back with all of my favorites.
I have pretty much gone exclusively to Penzeys a spice store (online and several locations) and I am pretty passionate about my spices :) I promise to come back and give you a list of all my favorites!

garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt (for cooking meats only), thyme, basil, bay leaves, cajun seasoning, crushed red pepper, and Italian seasoning - those are what we use most and make sure we always have; everything else is just bought because a recipe calls for it.

*lugs laptop over to spice cupboard*

I have a TON of spices. I also use lots of fresh herbs from my own garden in the spring and summer, but here's the list of my go-to spices.

All Spice
Anise
Basil
Cinnamon (Saigon)
Chili Powder
Cumin
Chives
Cloves (whole and powder)
Curry Powder
Dill
Fennel
Ginger
Kosher Salt and Sea Salt
Mustard (ground)
Nutmeg
Oregano
Onion Powder
Parsley
Rosemary
Sage
Tarragon
Vanilla (extract, beans, paste, sugar)

I am also a big fan of Penzey's spice blends. My favorites are
Sunny Paris
Four Peppercorn Blend
Pizza Spice
Herbes de Provence
Mulling Spices

We have a ridiculous amount of spices and I couldn't tell you what most of them are. That is the hub's area.

Things that I use often:

salt
pepper
garlic powder
garlic salt
paprika
chili powder
cinnamon
cinnamon sugar
crushed red pepper
season all
steak seasoning
hamburger seasoning

Ditto to Laura's list. A literal ditto.

Also thanks for the Penzey link Becky!! ♥

I am lucky enough to live near one of the best spice stores in Sydney. They have some great blends. I like to use fresh herbs where I can.
My favorite spices are:
cumin
cardamon
flavoured salts
cinnamon
tumeric
dried chipotle (because good mexican is not common here)
vanilla paste
star anise
szechwan pepper
chinese 5 spice
sumac

My entire stash is Penzey's, too. I rage threw out all my old ones once (they were OLD OLD) and just went to the Penzey's store and bought all the ones I knew I'd use. The beauty of it is, they sell SMALL jars. So first of all, you aren't spending $7 on something you won't use every day, but you don't have to buy a lifetime supply of it. I love them.

We won't talk about how many I have. :whistle

When I met my husband I had HUNDREDS. Many duplicates, of course, because they were everywhere and I had no idea what I had. I told him when we got married I'd keep the stash down to this one plastic basket that fits on a shelf. I have, but that thing is over flowing. Haha.

I couldn't cook with out my sea salt and pepper grinders! We have lots of other stuff - but I don't really use it unless I'm baking.

I usually buy the basic spice rack or get one for Christmas but extras are:

Garlic Powder
Garlic Salt
Celery Salt
Montreal Steak Seasoning
Chili Powder
Cumino (not Cumin)
Cinnamon

and we always have lots of Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning and More Spice (This is a staple in our kitchen...like Salt & Pepper!)
