I think we all love spices. They make food taste so much better! IMO:)

Sooo, do you buy yours from the store? Or do you buy specialty spices from an 'agent'??

I'm looking to expand my culinary skills and try some new recipes and such and though getting the 'higher' end spices, might aid in this.

Whatcha think.. thoughts?

Mine are all from Penzey's. Love them. Also love that they sell smaller bottles, since really you shouldn't keep them longer than a year or so. They don't stay fresh forever. So I buy the smaller bottles of stuff I don't use as much, and the big bags of the stuff I do (like cinnamon). I love that place.

I tried growing my own herbs this summer. We had lots of fresh basil, rosemary and cilantro. The rosemary bush is still looking pretty good! I try to buy herbs fresh when I can, and I keep onions, garlic and sea salt on hand. I watch a lot of cooking shows, and salt and pepper is all you need most of the time! :)

I do love Penzys! I haven't gotten that catalog in ages. My spice rack needs to be cleaned out, too. Some of that stuff is getting old because I don't use it much. Adobo, salt & pepper get used a lot. And I use cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice when I'm baking.

I buy mine from The Spice House (I think it's a Chicago/Wisconsin store but they do mail order) if dried, fresh from the grocery store (I love fresh but it's just too expensive for my pocketbook for every meal). I've tried growing my own and right now I have 3 dead and 2 dying herbs in my kitchen...thinking next year I may try to figure out how to concoct an outdoor herb garden on our tiny balcony.

This goes on everything!!!!!

I don't cook much so all of mine are the 99 cent jobbers from the store... BUT I do have some high end vanilla beans, vanilla extract, pink salt, and saffron threads... I use the salt a lot and the high end vanilla cause cheaper stuff sucks and my dd is allergic to stuff in them...

I leave all that jazz to the hubs.. I am not good at cooking lol.
