So, I'm heading to California (from Georgia) for Thanksgiving and will be there for EIGHT days! EEP. #withinlaws #lordhelpme

Anyway, I've pretty much decided NOT to take my big DSLR camera and go with my iPhone only. I ALWAYS take it, and usually have to carry a laptop bag and camera bag on the plane (and everywhere). But I'm thinking I just don't want to this time.

Am I terrible? Will I regret it? We are not doing much other than just hanging out with family. And cooking. And eating. LOL.

Leaving after church, so I have about 3 hours to decide. Tell me it's OK to go light. Or talk me into taking my friend, Mr. Canon. :giggle

Unless playing photographer with the DSLR will save your sanity during in-law time, I think you're OK to leave it behind. Particularly when it's all things you've captured before, I think the iphone is perfectly fine. I honestly have more guilt when I take it and don't really use it! LOL

Pass. it's one big extra thing to carry and not use enough to justify. I agree, leave it!

I agree with not *needing* it. But if you want it, travel light. For our last two flying trips, I've taken one lens only and no camera bag. Just the camera body and my wide angle (I even put the camera in auto the bulk of the time). That's my preferred set up now. I used to think traveling with my big camera was all or nothing. Loving the pared down set up now!

You don't need it unless it's an escape goat to go snap pictures of something OUTSIDE the house.

OK... walking out the door... without it. My kids helped make my decision. I said I was leaving my big camera at home and each of them at different times said "GOOD". :giggle

Deep breaths.

Will post next from the West Coast!

On the last trip I took and traveled on an airplane, I did not take my DSLR and only used my phone. My photos were just fine.

Glad you are going light! You will have a great time and it will be super easy to take photos when you want!

I know it's already a done deal, but I just wanted to add that on my last family vacation in September, I did take my DSLR and I only used it for about 10 pictures of my 1200 that I took. The rest were on my iPhone and I don't regret it at all. I've already scrapped that whole trip and my pages are just as good as if I had lugged my big camera around. Now I wish I would have just left it at home like you did! I hope you have a wonderful time!
