So, I'm seeing these Silhouette Black Friday Deals all over the place and I need to know if this is something I need to take advantage of, LOL. (would be a gift from all of my loved ones, even at this price )

1. What's the difference between the Cameo and Portrait and would there ever be a reason one would need both?

2. Isn't there another cutting machine out there as well? Is it better?

3. What kind of files are these compatible with? SVG? (I'm a TOTAL cutting newbie)

Any other wisdom you care to bestow on me is appreciated .

I have a Portrait. I haven't used it a lot, but it is pretty darn cool. The difference between the Cameo and the Portrait is that the Portrait is smaller – only does the letter size (although I think you could run longer stuff through, just nothing wider than 8½"), while the Cameo can handle the 12x12 stuff. I can't imagine that you would need both.

So far I've only created my own files, then used the software to trace and cut them. The machine is a bit noisy while it's doing the cutting. Sounds a bit like an alien robot.

Like I said, I haven't used it a lot yet, so that's about the extent of my helpfulness.

I adore my Portrait. I've used it quite a bit, and I don't paper scrap much. It lets me easily use all my digital files on hybrid pages, though. Plus I've made little crafty things like gift boxes and t-shirt designs. Best crafty purchase ever.

There are a lot of "coupon codes" floating around from LouLee Blogs and Lolly Jane for example, but it's all the same price. I suspect those are just for referrals (which is totally cool... I'll support someone if I choose to buy).

ETA: you need a coupon code for the deal it appears... gonna get the Portrait. Can't quite justify the Cameo, but it looks super cool. Merry Christmas to me
