deer vs. car--this is the side view

2015-05-092020.24.14.jpg

good news is my son was unhurt and thankfully she came out of the ditch on the driver's side meaning he caught her with the passenger side of the car and why he was unhurt. The deer was killed instantly (which I am grateful for, don't want to think she suffered) and my car was towed away from the scene.

Talking to insurance they are going to have it looked at as there is a possibility they may write it off :(. Did I mention that I just switched banks and signed the papers on the loan for this car with a lower interest rate? :dizzy

Am in a sweet little rental, Chevy Cruze BUT because Braeden is only 17 he can't drive so his wings are clipped for the next week or two. :thumbsdowns

ouch! i know the feeling. my car was not even a year old when a deer ran into it.

she'll be good as new soon. hope it works out OK $$$-wise for you! your son must be going crazy knowing he can't drive the rental and waiting on the car to get fixed! ugh!

so glad your son is OK though!

Oh boy! Thankfully he is ok! That happens so much around here! Hoping your insurance stuff gets sorted out real soon!

it happens quite often around here as well Renee, thankfully I have always seen them beforehand. Am impressed he was so calm when he called me and I was his second call, police were his first.

Jenn, mine is 4 years old but still in really good shape. Insurance is saying right now it fits the 'template' of a write-off but waiting on the appraiser to get at it.

It's so good to hear that he is ok! They are in our area, not as much as where we used to be, but still scare me. I usually see them, as soon as I am somewhat close. DH sees them way ahead. He says it's because he grew up with it. Not sure.

Good luck and hoping it all works out. Hoping insurance works out and gets settled fast!

We had a deer jump out in front while in a fairly rural town. It bounced off the hood/windshield and trotted off unhurt. Luckily there was only a small dent, not enough to bother with. But let me tell you about the time I was attacked one windy day by a shopping cart pushed by 70 mile an hour winds down a small incline in the Costco shopping lot that ended up costing $1600 to fix. Praise God for insurance.

So glad your son was not hurt, cars can be replaced but not so our loved ones.

Yikes! We get quite a few deer around us too. They seem to pop out of nowhere! I'm so glad that your son wasn't hurt and was calm during the ordeal. Hopefully everything with your car gets worked out soon too.

The possibility of colliding with a deer has always been frightening to me, they are so big and can create such damage. Thank goodness he was not hurt!

What a blessing that your son wasn't hurt and it sounds like he handled the whole situation in such a mature grown-up manner. When I hear about accidents like this, it makes me want to consider installing a deer whistle (and do those things actually work?).

never heard of one of those Heather.

I was advised to get out anything I wanted from the car and to take my license plates (front one is all bent so not much use), haven't said definitively but according to insurance it 'fits the template for a loss'. By early next week I should know if I start looking for another vehicle and what the offer for mine will be. Found the identical car but a 2013 version, no one ever know it wasn't the same car :)
