Having seen the (mildy scary and slight intimidating - to me!) pressure cooker thread, I thought I'd start a Slow Cooker / Crock Pot thread!

One of my all time favourite go-to Slow Cooker recipes is Coca Cola Pulled Pork :D

I use two cans of diet coke, half a bottle of store-bought BBQ sauce, some Tony Cacheries seasoning (which costs over $10 a tin in the UK... omg). You mix it all together, and then put a rolled pork shoulder joint in the mix. I normally cook it on low for about 10 hours and then shred the joint with a pair of forks - sometimes we have it with rice, in tacos, in wraps.

I would love to know some breakfast or desert recipes to try out. What's your go to Slow Cooker recipe? :)

I'm planning on hosting a scrap day here at my house in a few weeks and wanted to teach myself to make slow cooker pork this weekend. I changed a cranberry one to cherry and it turned out pretty good. I think it's what I'll make.

I love the idea about having some new recipes to try.

For scrap parties I like to make mexican chicken in my crockpot. I use 6-8 boneless chicken breasts then pour in 1 jar of medium salsa, add a little (like tbsp) cumin and a few dashes of lime juice. Just let it cook on low for 6-8 hours and shred with forks. Great over salad or in little corn tortillas with toppings. So good and super easy when you are busy getting your house ready for guests.

I also make marinara sauce in the crock pot. I use this Pinterest recipe and then bag it in quart bags and freeze. It's great for anything you need sauce for - meatball subs, pasta, etc.

This is my family's favorite slow cooker recipe:

Slow Cooker Kalua Pig

I buy the big 16# boneless butts from Costco and cut them in half. Freeze the other half for a later time. It takes 16 hours, so I start it late one night and we have it the next day. Everything from tacos, burritos, pulled pork sandwiches, but my favorite is to bake potatoes or sweet potatoes, put the pig on top with cheese, sour cream and bbq sauce. YUM!!!

Chocolate Lava Cake in the crockpot is awesome. I have made this in my smaller crockpot while I had soup going in my big one.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 2 ounces semisweet chocolate (or 1/3 cup chocolate chips)
  • 1 cup sugar (2/3 cup & 1/3 cup, added separately)
  • 3 tablespoons plus 1/3 cup Dutch-processed cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • Whipped cream or ice cream

  1. Coat the inside of a 2 1/2- to 5-quart slow cooker with cooking spray.
  2. Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a medium bowl and set aside. In a large bowl, melt the butter and chocolate in the microwave or over a pan of simmering water and mix well.
  3. Whisk in the 2/3 cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons of cocoa, vanilla extract, salt, milk, and egg yolk. Add the flour mixture and stir until thoroughly mixed.
  4. Pour the batter into the slow cooker and spread it evenly. In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar (white and brown), cocoa, and hot water until the sugar is dissolved.
  5. Pour the mixture over the batter in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 1 to 2 hours, depending on the size of the crock pot.
  6. When done, the cake will be very moist and floating on a layer of molten chocolate, but you'll know it's ready when nearly all of the cake is set and the edges begin to pull away from the sides of the pot. (As you check, try not to let the condensed steam from the lid drip onto the cake.)
  7. When it's done, turn off the power and remove the lid. Let it cool for 25 minutes, then serve it in bowls topped with whipped cream or ice cream. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
This tastes really good cold the next day as well.

My standby is similar to Juli's. Chicken breasts, salsa, black beans, corn and a pack of taco seasoning. When it's done, I take it out and shred it and stir it back in. Serve over rice or in burritos.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread!

In the winter, I use it a lot for soups: taco soup, chili, etc.
We also love this Chicken Quinoa Chili, and I made the chicken, black beans, corn, salsa and taco seasoning thing too :)
